Guest guest
Hi, I have been reading this board to familiarize myself with the SCD diet and am just about done reading BTVC. My son is 5.5 yo Asperger with yeast issue symptoms and rectal prolapse. We have been GFCF for about 3 mos and this seems to have helped regulate his stools but I know that we really need SCD to really address the yeast issues. We are prepping food and planning to start over this long weekend. I have one question that I am not clear on after going through the book... Once we complete the intro diet and move onto the first stage of foods, are we to only add one new food a day? Meaning, for Stage 1, I am guessing that we cannot add all of the things listed for Stage 1 in one day. Are we to stay with stage 1, adding only ONE new food from that list a day? Thank you in advance for answering my question. Michele
Guest guest
Welcome to the group Michele, > Once we complete the intro diet and move onto the first stage of foods, > are we to only add one new food a day? The intro should be for 2-5 days maximum - 4-5 days for diarrhea and 2-3 days for everything else. After the intro you gradually introduce increasingly more complex foods. You should wait at least one day for each food. Some people have to do only one new food every 2-3 days because it takes that long to know if it is tolerated or not. For some they have an almost immediate reaction - stomach pains and or diarrhea etc. Others will have constipation and so can only introduce food every so many days once they know it doesn't worsen constipation. A food journal will help clarify your child's reaction to food. The food journal could record when new food is introduced, how it is prepared, and any positive or negative reactions (stomach pains, regressions, diarrhea etc.).
