Guest guest
do you guys homeschool so your kids are not exposed to so many children?? We have always wanted to homeschool but still many years away from even getting to school age, hes only 8 weeks old LOL monique The Battle was Won : ) Hello Again All, I posted here about a week ago in reference to Medicaid not wanting to cover the cost of my daughter- Elisabeth's enzymes- Ultrase MT12. The doctor did send a note to the pharmacist, who in turn sent it to Medicaid stating NO Substitutions!!!. Medicaid hehawed around but finally agreed to cover the cost of the non- generic enzymes. Soooo we are happy that is taken care of. Its funny after this battle began- I was reading over some of the literature we had picked up at the CF conference we attended a couple of months ago at our Chldren's Hospital here. ( you can never read all the stff given to you there in one day : ) ) anyway....included was a reprint from an article from March 2001 Retail Pharmacy Magazine- The article was entitled " Dispense With Caution " - and begin by saying- Pharmacists who switch Cystic Fibrosis Patients to generic pancreactic enzymes may be violating state formulatory regualtions- and endangering patients.- ......It was a VERY good article- citing examples of chidren who had failed to thrive using the generic versions and the battles of some of the familes with insurance companies and Medicaid- some having a much tougher time then I just had getting what was right for their child. Anyone having this problem in the future should get a copy of this article and take it to their pharmacist and insurance company, medicaid office, and make them read it. I should have read it just a few days sooner LOL. : ) Thanks all again for your support. Guest guest
--Hi Lori in Florida : ), Nice to see some other homeschoolers on the board. : ). You inquired as to how long I have been homeschooling- My oldest is in 6th grade this year- she is 10. so that makes 7 years so far- ok 6 1/2 since this school year is not over yet LOL. My middle child is in 2nd grade. Elisabeth ( with CF ) is 4. She really was ready to start kindergarden this year as she knows how to count to 30 , colors, her letters, etc. but the non-teacher part of me just wanted to hold out one more year- probably trying to keep her my " baby " LOL : ). As I have seen on some of the post recently and agree with I think CF kids are smart cookies !!!! It is more work homeschooling 2 and 3 ought to be even more challenging but I love it. I could go on and on.....lol I hope you are enjoying your experience too : ). We thought about moving to Florida in the next 2 or 3 years so I have already looked into the homeschooling laws there AND the CF clinics and such. Feel free to write me at my AOL addy anytime : ) Deborah McClintock- homeschooling mother of 3- the youngest- Elisabeth with CF - In cfparents@y..., " Lori Willner " wrote: > Hi! Guest guest
-Hi , To answer your question- I started homeschooling with my first child when she was 4. She is 10 now. My second is 7. Neither one of them has CF. I had decided before my kids were born homeschooling is soemthing I wanted to do. No- I am not a homeschooled child myself- I went to public school and a college in Florida. My B. S. Degree is in Elementary Education. Having said that- I do not think you have to have a degree in education to teach your children and I know that even parents who may want to , may not be able to because the mother may have to work, or whatever the reason. I DO believe is it of some benefit to Elisabeth though that her siblings are not in school bringing all those lovely germs home to her. I know!!!! that germs are everywhere and she could pick them up at church, in the grocery store, etc. But I think its a little step in prevention anyway. All of us as parents and CF parents makes decisions as to what is best for our children, and we all come to diff different conclusions on how to best achieve this. I dont claim my way is better tha anyone elses- Its just my way : ) You still have plenty of time to decide what will be best for you and your little one : ). Feel free to write to addy if you have any other questions. Have a great night everyone.
