UPDATE ON MARSHA SIMS

Hello everyone, I called Marsha Sims at the Fairview University Medical

Center today and spoke with her husband. Marsha had the pancreatectomy and

islet cell transplant. She is doing very well. She had the surgery early

Friday morning and today her husband said she is in her room. She took a few

steps today, still has her tubes in, and is on pain meds but the report is

that she is doing better than most patients.

Dr. Sutherland was able to leave her duodenum intact since it had good blood

flow. That is great since she will get more nourishment from her food with

keeping her duodenum. They retrieved Two hundred and nineteen thousand

islets. One hundred and fifty-thousand more than she needed for her body

size. Marsha is five feet tall. Her blood sugar is ranging around 112. Dr.

Sutherland said that her pancreas looked OK but that doesn't mean anything.

Many patients who are so ill from pancreatitis have very normal looking

pancreases. That is not unusual. He said that my pancreas was an odd color.

Thank God that it has been removed.

Marsha has a recovery time to go through now and I hope that her recovery

will be easy and fast. Please keep her in your prayers for a speedy

recovery. She is such a very nice lady. She has suffered so much. Take

care, Shirley
