The first surgery I think was the hardest because there were so many polpys in there. The only problems she had was keep food down. She felt sick to her stomach a lot. But you got to remember too when she had her first surgery was when she was first diagnosed so she hadn't been feeling very good before hand. Also two months before that she had her shunt revised. So she had two strikes against her so that might be why it was so tuff the first time. The second surgery we were out much faster. They didn't even put her in a room just recovery and they sent us home with lots of pain pills and antiboitics. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi friends, Yes, we are STILL waiting on the DNA test! I can't believe it is taking so long! Anyway, we just got home from Caden's checkup at the allergist. His nasal passages are unchanged even though he has been on antibiotics since the 11th and has completed two courses of steroids (18 days worth), in the past two months. He is going for another sinus CT Friday and one more blood draw. It is the RAST test. To check for allergies by blood. He says sometimes people show up positive for allergies by blood and not the skin test, even though the skin test is much more sensitive and diagnostic. Then, we go back in 3 weeks and if nothing has changed, he will have to have sinus surgery. He has talked to Caden's metabolic dr and he said it would be safe and necessary if that's the only option. Caden told the Dr. that his nose " didn't work and guessed that it never would " hahaha cute but sad..... He was being honest in his 4 yr old way. He sniffs and sniffs and you can hear something in there but NOTHING comes out. The dr said even looking in there, it is blocked up. So, anyway, I had some questions about sinus surgery. I know many of your kids have had to have it. How bad is it and how long is recovery? Risk of bleeding??? I would appreciate any info.you can pass along. Thanks for listening, Krystena s Caden 4 yrs GAII- testing for CF
Guest guest
Both Mallory and have had sinus surgery. They seemed fine within a day of the surgery, and with , he stopped that " sniffing " thing that he was doing at the time. However, the windows that they created were back closed again within a month. If your son doesn't end up having CF, then perhaps the sinus surgery will be a good long term solution. I hope that this helps some at least. As far as bleeding, they recommend that most CF kids get vitamin K injections. I am not sure if you mean that risk of bleeding for your son's other disorder or not and not sure what the implications would be in that case. 's comment after the surgery (he was less than 3 at the time) was " I can smell now " . Hope this helps. Jen Mommy of 7, 3 with CF > > Hi friends, > > Yes, we are STILL waiting on the DNA test! Guest guest
Christian prior to his sinus surgery used to LOVE deviled eggs so when he came home afterwards I made him a bunch while he was visiting with my parents. First thing he said when he walked in was " What is that terrible smell " ! Needless to say he doesn't eat them any longer! It was a big surprise to us that for all these years he never knew what certain things smelled like!
