Guest guest
Hi, I was diagnosed with rosacea in January by my PCP when I mentioned the red blotches that appeared on my cheeks when I drank red wine while sitting at my computer with the heat blowing. His only recommendation was to avoid these triggers. Okay, I can give up red wine, but heat and computers? As I learn more about the condition and as my condition worsens, I am outraged at this doctor's non- chalant attitude and the lack of treatment options offered. I have since changed PCPs and have scheduled an appointment with a derm. for later this month. The new PCP prescribed metro-gel and tetracycline. I started on my second tube of metro-gel this morning. I have learned a lot about treatment from lurking on this list and searching the archives over the last month! My current morning routine is cetaphil cleanser bar, air dry, metro- gel, and Zinco (in lieu of foundation). This keeps the redness somewhat under control until early afternoon, after which I look sun- burned. I also have a fair amount of flakiness and dry skin on my nose and surrounding cheek areas. I am hoping that a really good night cream might help with this. I have tried Neutrogena sensitive skin, but it is too light and doesn't do much. I am currently trying a heavy moisturizer by Cetaphil. It includes a couple of potentially taboo ingredients, but I am going to give it a shot anyway because it feels so soothing. I have not seen it mentioned here -- has anyone tried it? I ordered a sample kit of Vanicream products this morning (free by calling 1-) and will probably try their skin cream next. Any other suggestions? I am thinking that adding an oil to my treatment regime might be the answer. I ordered some purple emu oil yesterday. Clearly, I am in somewhat-desparate-mode, although I am trying to be patient and try one treatment/ product at a time. I wanted to start swimming this week -- it is warm and sunny here -- but am concerned about doing so until I get this dryness under control. Several posts in the archives suggest that it can actually help with the redness so I may go tonight even though it throws one more unknown variable into this great experiment! TIA, Lynn
