Guest guest
Louie, Yeah, I think the cruise may do me good. I was realy starting to get excited about it as yesterday was a really great day. I guess two great days in a row was too much to expect. I began having an episode of the all too familar pain under the right rib and nausea as soon as I got up this morning. I took a lortab 5 and phenergan tab and it got better for a bit then got worse again. I called my family doc and he said for me to come in and they'd do a shot. Hubby brought me in before he went to work. They gave me 100 mg demerol and 50 mg phenergan about an hour ago. It has kicked in and the pain is now back down to just a naggy type - around a 2-3. I had so hoped I would be able to make it to work every day this week. I can't even manage two days in a row. I felt so great yesterday that I thought maybe things were on the mend. I don't think I told you guys but my Mom was in the hospital last week for a couple of days because of chest pains. they did all kinds of heart tests and all was fine so they sent her home. We all kind of figured it might be gallbladder and made her an appt with my stomach doc in b'ham. I didn't even tell very many people because I just couldn't even let myself think that it really might be her heart. My mom began having more intense chest pain yesterday afternoon and her doc told her to go to the ER. All the tests they did last night came okay but the ER doctor was concerned so he contacted the cardiologist. The cardiologist had her transferred to Huntsville Hospital and is going to do a cardiac cath. He thinks the chest pain is heart related and suspects a blockage. She has no family history of heart disease but does have family history of atherosclerosis (sp?) and strokes. She also developed high cholesterol a few months ago and had to go on meds for it. The high cholesterol is one of the things that has the cardiologist concerned. Also, she has been having to sleep on pillows at night because lying flt makes it worse. She has also just been extremely tired since it began and that is just not like her. I keep holding out hope that it is actually her gallbladder as she has had some episodes over the last few months of what seemed to be gallbladder attacks and episodes of feeling nauseated off and on. Of course, nothing showed in the ultrasound or hida scan she had a couple of months back. Typically, my mom runs circles around me even when I am well. She just hasn't been herself but kept saying it was because her sugar has been out of whack lately. You guys please keep her in your prayers. Even though she makes me crazy sometimes, I cannot imagine not having her here. They are doing the cardiac cath today around 10:30 a.m. I feel so bad that I will not be able to be there. I know she and my stepdad will understand but damnit, why is just two good days too much to ask? I wasn't planning on being there all day but figured I'd just take a long lunch break and go up there during lunch. W

Guest guest
Louie, Saw your post about the insulin shots. Incase you need to do it I will pass on a trick my nurse taught me and it worked for me! If you give them in the stomach just squeeze a section of fat really hard so that it is uncomfortable. Then grin and bear it and shove in the needle. You will be surprised as I was that the squeezing really hurts more than the needle. If you really feel the needle you weren't squeezing the skin hard enough. Hope it works for you! It did for me and now I " ve overcome my fear of doing it and it is easy. Guest guest
Better yet....there are new pens out that are really good. They look like a pen..you pull off the top and there is a very short needle you screw on. You dial up how much insulin you are suppose to take and you can put the shot in your arm. They are called Humalog Pen's. They are a lot easier to carry around then they syringe's and vials of insulin. They are kinda expensive ($120) for five but if your insurance can pay for it I would look into those for people that really hate to give themselves the shot's... Guest guest
Louie, I hope the Glucophage change is helping too. Sometimes it takes medicines several days to fully get into the system (kind of a cumulative effect). The ulcer in the eye is fully healed, but it's still a little inflamed, so I have a new oitment for the eye at night and I have been able to discontinue the drops and the other ointment. This one is helping and the inflamation is receding slowly. I'll be able to wear the contacts once all the redness is gone. I talked with someone else who has had this and she said it was best to wait at least 6 weeks after it's healed to where the contacts, so I'll probably do that. Don't want to take the chance of this happening again. I did have have some vision loss as there is a small scar, but I'm seeing a optomestrist on Friday to see how much and if we can correct it with glasses. I'm hoping that is the case.
