Sure, the first week. By the second week, you start getting a little

actual hunger now and then, or tired from not getting enough

protein/potassium, so by the third week, you're ready for a little

more. V-8 the second week, along with better soups (with some

veggies) helps. Yogourt has protein and more calories, too. Fruit

juices are usually pretty high calorie.

Believe it or not, we all start out well-nourished and a complete

week-long fast wouldn't likely phase most of us. I did a two week

fast before (lost whoopie, 13 pounds) and it didn't bother me. I

was,

um, er, " well-nourished, " in the medical jargon.

Today was the end of week three for me. I don't want nearly as much

as I used to. It's amazing. I kept a snack-sized bag (the small,

lunch-type) of pretzels for four days and never did eat them all.

Now

that would have been a total impossibility three weeks and one day

ago.

I am still having to deal with " head hunger, " though -- that drive

that makes me open the fridge and look in every time I pass it.

So I've bought a lot of nothing foods -- sugar-free jello, sugar-free

popsicles, garlic dill and dill pickles, salad and fat-free salad

dressing, carrots. I chomp on one of those when the head-hunger

gives

me trouble. As a result, I'm staying uncomfortably full a lot, and

that, in turn, is making me lose the head-hunger. Yippee!!!

I'm using dietwatch.com to keep track of what I'm actually eating and

what the calorie content comes up to each day. The first week, I had

trouble getting in 350 calories a day. Now, I'm actually having a

little trouble keeping it under 600 calories (which is where I want

it

for now). I'm not having much trouble getting my protein

requirements

or potassium, because I'm eating shrimp (high protein) and spicey V-8

(high potassium).

Hey , a 1/2 cup is good! I too was concerned and wrote to the lest.

Overwhelmingly, the answers I got were that many people can only eat that

and less in the very beginning and that after a few weeks that will change

to a slightly larger capacity. I'm to the point where I need to plan a

shopping trip for the supplements. Has got that planned out yet? You

DO NOT even dare enter the big butt contest! You cannot win. You're not

even a contender.

Email me privately if you would . I'd like to know what made you make

your final decision. My daughter had decided to do it too.

--- Hi it's great to hear from you and to know is doing

well. It must be bizarre to watch a loved one eat so little. I don't

blame you for worrying, but do not fear. Believe it or not a 1/2 cup

of yogurt is quite filling, but he should at least eat one container

over the course of a day. It's important to get protein so your body

doesn't devour muscle tissue for fuel. I'm starting the whey protein

supplement soon. I mixed it with yogurt and gagged, so I'm trying to

figure out another method of eating it. Being a choca-holic I bought

the choc. flavored whey which leaves few options to mix it with.

Sometimes I need to chew and I'm flavor starved so I bought some

Nabisco Air Crisp crackers, they're low fat, low sugar and after

eating about 5 of them I'm content.

After you have the surgery what are you and going to spend all

that unused grocery money on?

Good wishhes
