All potential risks and/ or advantages of gotu kola may not be known. Additionally, there are no regulated manufacturing standards in place for these compounds. There have been instances where herbal/ health supplements have been sold which were contaminated with toxic metals or other drugs. Herbal/ health supplements should be purchased from a reliable source to minimize the risk of contamination. Sounds like something to avoid. Why do you guys need so many supplements that may be toxic? Carol F.
Guest guest
> > I frankly do not consider the FDA a reliable source of information. I would never consider using an herb that was toxic and had heavy metals. Tylenol is FDA approved and way more dangerous and toxic to the liver. For that matter, vitamin C has not been evaluated by the FDA as a cancer treatment, doesn't mean that research does not exist or people do not find benefit. Enzymes have not been evaluated by the FDA. Buying anything from a disreputable source, from milk to food to herbs to cars, is generally a bad idea. I do know Gota Kola is a tonic herb (this is not to be confused with Kola nut), with natural vitamins and magnesium. We use this herb to good effect. Out of all the medications and supplements that are available out there, I know one thing, the ones we take are the least damaging and are very healing. Should this be added to our legal list? I hope Jody can look into it. Personally I react badly to most herbs and supplements and am very wary. Perhaps DeFelice can comment further on Goto Kola and also the FDA. I am in Canada and our approvals from the government vary from the U.S. Our government is trying to control alternative medicine... Carol F.
