Guest guest
Yes, I have pureed vegetables and put them in the burgers. My main concern is having meat everyday does not sound too healthy despite having pureed vegetables in them. I've tried eggs for my son today and he turned red after a couple of hours and was crying despite not having eggs for almost a year. I only gave him a tablespoon. I definitely saw improvements in the scd diet earlier but it just concerns me that he eats too much meat. Now he seems constipated as well. I've tried so hard to get him to eat fruits for constipation but he reacts to high oxylates which is found in a lot of fruits. He also hates them. Can't get him to eat it pureed, fresh, baked. I did receive information from someone who said it's not good to eat meat everyday only 2x a week. I tend to agree but I'm still researching and will be looking for a nutritionist. My husband and I are now at a crossroads - to continue with the diet or go gfcf. I appreciate your input and hope to hear more from others. Guest guest
Marie, I am still concerned that you are confused between the issue of oxalates and the issue of salicylates. If it is an issue of oxalates, then I would really suggest you join the trying_low_oxalates yahoo! group. I don't know of any reason to keep meat consumption down to 2 times per week, especially if your child cannot tolerate eggs, nuts or dairy. Meat is his major source of protein. Not that a diet needs to be or should be HIGH in protein, but kids do need protein. If you switch to GFCF, limit meat to 2 times per week-- what is he going to eat? Mostly starch since he won't willingly eat vegetables. I don't think a high starch diet is a good choice for an ASD kid. I think the solution, no matter what the diet, is to come up with a workable way to get him to eat vegetables. Have you read the Overcoming Difficulties page on pecanbread.com? There is an excellent link on that page on how to get picky eaters to expand their diets. http://www.pecanbread.com/difficulties.html Jody mom to -7 and -9 SCD 1/

Guest guest
Some primitive peoples thrived on diets that were primarially meat. Esp in the winter. (think about eskimos). I personally beleive that a diet of just meat and veggies can be very healthy. In fact it is a major improvement over the sad! Good luck figuring out the right way to nurture your son.
