Guest guest
Hello Again All, I posted here about a week ago in reference to Medicaid not wanting to cover the cost of my daughter- Elisabeth's enzymes- Ultrase MT12. The doctor did send a note to the pharmacist, who in turn sent it to Medicaid stating NO Substitutions!!!. Medicaid hehawed around but finally agreed to cover the cost of the non- generic enzymes. Soooo we are happy that is taken care of. Its funny after this battle began- I was reading over some of the literature we had picked up at the CF conference we attended a couple of months ago at our Chldren's Hospital here. ( you can never read all the stff given to you there in one day : ) ) anyway....included was a reprint from an article from March 2001 Retail Pharmacy Magazine- The article was entitled " Dispense With Caution " - and begin by saying- Pharmacists who switch Cystic Fibrosis Patients to generic pancreactic enzymes may be violating state formulatory regualtions- and endangering patients.- ......It was a VERY good article- citing examples of chidren who had failed to thrive using the generic versions and the battles of some of the familes with insurance companies and Medicaid- some having a much tougher time then I just had getting what was right for their child. Anyone having this problem in the future should get a copy of this article and take it to their pharmacist and insurance company, medicaid office, and make them read it. I should have read it just a few days sooner LOL. : ) Thanks all again for your support.
