Many of my problems began when I had a really bad allergic

reaction to Clindamycin. (Which if I were to ever injest again,

the emergency room doctor said, would probably kill me). Is it

safe for me to take Zithromax? Isn't that another name for some

type of mycin drug? Or are they different enough that I should

be ok? I'd like to assume that since my derm didn't mention

anything, that I should be safe, but, I've had serious health

problems already after being given unsafe medications/medication

combinations on more than one occasion already :)

Thanks

Adam

clyndamycin is a lincosamide and zithromax is a macrolide (actually

an azalide). they are chemcially different. allergic reactions to

zithromax are rare. but, on the same token, allergic reactions to

clindamycin are also rare. there should be no cross reactivity.

maybe you should do a patch test for clindamycin to see if you indeed

are allergic to it. however, most p. acnes are resistant to

clindamycin anyway, which is not the case for zithromax.
