JE, in general the two -2 inhibitors (Vioxx and Celebrex) have not

delivered on their initial promise in a number of anticipated areas.

For all the hooplah, it doesn't seem they are a convincing

improvement over other NSAIDs.

You and I discussed your environmental MD a few months ago -- you

told me then what he thought, and I gave your references to share

with him. If you're comfortable doing so, perhaps you can re-locate

our online exchange and approach him on your next visit. I'd like to

learn from him, if possible. Please understand, I avoid private email

exchanges in favor of online discussions. :)

Vioxx is a newer antiinflammatory designed by Merck (I think) for those who

have gi problems with motrin and advil. A veteran clinician I know who has

also done much clinical research for big multinat'l pharmaceuticals was

ranting eloquently about Merck's billion dollar campaign touting vioxx, and

how its clinical efficacy was actually in no way better than motrin. He was

speaking very generally though, and conceded that it is probably better for

some people. I think it's prolly much more expensive and harder to get it

covered by insurance though.

Just thought I'd share that. I have no idea if one is better than the other

for R inflammation.
