Guest guest
Hello everyone, Well, we are snowed in. We live in Missouri and we got about 8 inces. The kids LOVE it, They are outside sledding. They are bundles up so much I am surprised they can even walk. Of course they are mad at me. Don't you know, they are too old to have to bundle up like that. haha The boys are getting better, but of course they gave it to me. Its hitting me right in the chest and I sound like a frog. Good thing the group is on line, typing is much easier than talking right now. I hope everyone is doing well. Vondie
Guest guest
Sounds like a truly lovely custom. Is that an old custom.I hadn't heard of it, even when we lived there-In Huttenfeld/Manheimbase(4 yrs). It is soo beautiful in Germany. You should be very proud LOVE & HUGS, GRDMBEV Re: lots of snow We could have used some snow here last night. During the night of December 6th Santa Claus comes around and fills the boots of the children with nuts, fruits and sweets. Fiona was excited as always (she even was thoughtful enough to lay a gingerbread heart beneath her boot for Santa). A little bit of snow would have been the perfect decoration for the little ceremony this morning when Fiona emptied her boot and thanked Santa for the gifts. Any other countries, where Santa comes that early? Or do you all have to wait until Christmas? In Germany Santa has handed the hard work with the really big parcels over to the Holy Child :-)) Peace Torsten > Hello everyone, > Well, we are snowed in. LOVE & HUGS, happy Hanukah to you & yours I sent a card out on first day.Hope you received to.I am not sure who all celebrates it , so sent one to all on lists . LOVE & HUGS, grandmomBEV Orlando, FL Re: Re: lots of snow Torsten, Thank you for sharing. I can just picture Fiona dumping out her little shoe full of goodies. I had heard of this custom, but though it came on Christmas. What is the significance of December 6? Around my house the kids are eagerly waiting the lighting of all eight candles for the last night of Hanukkah (also spelled Hanukah, Chanukah, Chanukkah, Channukkah, Hannukkah, etc.). In some families the kids get presents all eight nights and in some only on the last night. Lori in Florida where there is no snow Re: lots of snow We could have used some snow here last night. Guest guest
Well, we celebrate Yule in addition to Christmas at my house. Yule begins on the day of the Winter Solstice (properly done, you'd be up all night before and watch the sun rise...but we don't generally do that due to lack of sleep and having to work the next day, as Yule isn't a US recognized holiday). It runs for 12 days/nights, with feasting and presents all 12 (hence the song about the 12 Days of Christmas...should be Yuletide, but can't expect perfection). This is a celebration of the return of the Sun closer to Earth, and warmer days ahead (eventually). We generally don't give presents to each other all 12 days, but we do so for Triana. We celebrate Christmas because our families do, and there's no reason not to. Of course, it will be interesting as Triana gets older and we start explaining the reasoning behind what we celebrate and what our families celebrate. I really have to start making the cookie dough this weekend. Things keep interfering with it...and I just know my sister is going to up and have her baby on the day I actually start making the stuff... Best wishes to all, Shanna mom of Triana, age 2 wcf Re: lots of snow We could have used some snow here last night.
