Guest guest
I have been a member for awhile. I have struggled and cried and have hated this disease. I am on many pain killers yet still have small attacks. This summer my bowls stopped working and I had to have emergancy surgery. I had 18 inches of mt bowl out and now have a colostomy. I thought that I have read that Dr. Lehman has saved a great deal of peoples lives. I am not too excited that you see him on one day and then the next day he performs an ercp. I always get pancreatitis afterwards. If anyone knows anything about him I would love to know as much info as possible......Thanks for all your wisdom Paget

HE IS A GREAT ERCP AND STINT MAN BUT AS FAR AS THAT I DIDN'T EXPERIENCE ANY HELP FROM HIM. HE WAS DOING ERCP'S AND STINTS INCREASING THE STINTS WITH EACH VISIT TO HIM TRYING TO INCREASE THE SMALL DUCT TO A LARGER SIZE SO THE SURGEON COULD PERFORM THE PEUSTOW SURGERY ON MY PANCREAS. JUST BEFORE THE METAL STINT THE STINT OF NO RETURN HE FINISHED WITH MY ERCP AND TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT EVEN WITH THE PEUSTOW SURGERY I WOULD CONTINUE TO HAVE PAIN AND WOULD NEED PAIN BLOCKS. FROM BEING IN THIS SUPPORT GROUP AND LEARNING SO MUCH FROM ALL OF THE MEMBERS I KNEW THAT THE PAIN BLOCKS DON'T DO MUCH GOOD. SO I STOPPED THE ERCP'S AND STINTS BEFORE THE LAST AND FINAL STINT WAS PUT IN AND DECIDED TO NOT HAVE THE PEUSTOW SURGERY. WHILE GOING THRU THE STINTS WITH DOCTOR LEHMAN I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PANCREATECTOMY AND THE ISLET CELL TRANSPLANT BEING DONE IN MN FROM DR. SUTHERLAND. I MET PEOPLE ON THE NET WHO HAD THE PACREATECTOMY AND AUTO ISLET CELL TRANSPLANT WHO WERE AFTER THEIR SURGERY WERE PAIN FREE AND ABLE TO EAT ALL THAT THEY WANTED. THEY ALSO HAS A BONUS OF NOT BEING DIABETIC. DR. LEHMAN WAS AGAINST THIS TYPE OF SURGERY. I KNEW THAT HIS HOSPITAL DID NOT DO THE SURGERY, DIDN'T HAVE THE DOCTOR'S TO DO THE SURGERY, DIDN'T HAVE THE EQUIPMENT TO DO THE SURGERY. I RESEARCHED THE PANCREATECTOMY AND AUTO ISLET CELL TRANSPLANT AND KNEW THAT THE SURGERY WAS FOR ME. I WAS GETTING SO MUCH WORSE AND I KNEW THAT I REALLY HAD NOTHING TO LOSE BUT MUCH TO GAIN FROM HAVING THE PANCREATECTOMY AND AUTO ISLET CELL SURGERY. I scheduled AN APPOINTMENT FOR A CONSULTATION AND A SURGERY DATE WITH DOCTOR SUTHERLAND. DURING THE SURGERY HE REMOVED MY PANCREAS AND SPLEEN. I AM PAIN FREE AND ABLE TO EAT ALL THAT I WANT. I AM ALSO NOT A DIABETIC SINCE HE WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE 217,000 ISLETS FROM MY PANCREAS AND TRANSPLANT THEM TO MY PORTAL VEIN IN MY LIVER. THERE THEY LIVE AND DO THE JOB THEY DID FOR ME WHEN THEY WERE IN MY PANCREAS. I DON'T NEED ANY ANTI-REJECTION DRUGS SINCE THE ISLETS ARE MY OWN. SO TO SUM IT UP I'M PRO IU AND THE STINTING. I BELIEVE THE STINTING ONLY MAKES THE PANCREAS MUCH WORSE. BUT IF YOU WANT TO HAVE THE ERCP'S AND THE STINTING YOU ARE GOING TO THE BEST. IF YOU EVER DECIDE TO HAVE ANY SURGERY ON YOUR PANCREAS REMEMBER THIS. ONCE A PANCREAS HAS HAD MAJOR SURGERY AND IF ONE IS LEFT IN PAIN FROM THAT SURGERY NOT WORKING THEN THE PANCREATECTOMY WILL NOT BE AS SUCCESSFUL. THE PREVIOUS SURGERIES LEAVE SCAR TISSUE AND THAT CAN CAUSE PAIN. NOT PAIN LIKE PANCREATITIS PAIN BUT PAIN THAT COULD NEED PAIN MEDS. I HAD MY PANCREATECTOMY AND AUTO ISLET CELL TRANSPLANT DEC. 8, 2000 AND I HAVE NOT REGRETTED IT ONCE. THAT SURGERY HAS GIVEN ME MY LIFE BACK AGAIN. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO ASK. SHIRLEY PS I HAD PANCREAS DIVISIM ALSO.
