Guest guest
I wondered if any one of this list has had trouble fasting or going with out food or drink for a meal or two. If I skip a meal or two I get bad gas pains and diarrhea when I start to eat again and I just wondered if it had something to do with the pancreatitis. Myrna Myrna, I have been unable to post for the last several days. My husband, grandchild and I went for a short weekend trip. I started an attack while on the way home (fortunately then, and not while we were vacationing!), and have spent the last three days trying to fast and staying in bed, both of which are very hard for me. It is recommended that you fast and stay pretty much immobile during a bad flare, but I always have trouble with the fasting part, too. Although I stay well hydrated, and try to curb my hunger pains with clear broth, this is usually not sufficient enough nourishment for me and I get terrible hunger pains and cramps, and the occasional diarrhea. So I wanted to let you know that you are not alone with this complaint. Whenever I skip a meal I get fierce pains, which I refer to as hunger pains, that are relieved only by eating. I used to get these tummy aches as a child for the very same reason. If I don't eat dinner by a certain time of night it is the same thing, it hurts and then there is gurgling and so much activity going on in my pancreas that it's audible from several feet away.....and quite embarassing. It's as though my pancreas was digesting itself! So I am not able to effectively fast, I usually have to nibble on some crackers or a little sandwich. I don't know what the answer is, since this pain is just as troublesome. Maybe someone else will have some ideas. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Guest guest
I find fasting when my pancreas is acting up is the only thing that helps. No food only water for a few days. from Canada
Guest guest
Heidi, Thank you so much for your reply. I do not seem to have a lot of problems while I am not eating, it is just when I start eating again that I have problems. I have had this for a couple of years but did not associate it with the pancreas until just this last little while and I am still not sure it has to do with that but felt if others on this list had had the same problem that it probably was the pancreas. It sounds like from your experience it sure could be. If any others have problems eating after they have not eaten for a while I would sure like to hear from them.
