Hey Suzanne!

We use Mag Citrate. You can get it through Mike Payne. We have a version from

metagenics, but I don't think it is legal. This is one of my supplements that I

am looking for an effective yet legal brand. Maybe Mike knows of a legal

version. I haven't approached him about this one yet because I am still working

on the " legalization " of some others.

I won't go near Miralax, you can be sure of that! Thanks for the

warning, I looked into it when it was Rx'ed for Tom's pre-scope

cleanout, and decided I didn't want to have anything to do with it.

I have heard about mag citrate but don't know much about it. What is

it? Is it available at a drugstore? Is is legal? Does anyone know

what it's derived from? How is it better/different from Milk of

Magnesia?

Suzanne,

Milk of Magnesia is not a good choice, as it is also an antacid, which will

further reduce digestion by neutralizing ph in the stomach. For most of us with

gut problems, the problem is the opposite, not having enough HCL in our stomachs

to properly digest food.

Magnesium Citrate, on the other hand, is a natural magnesium mineral, usually

sourced from vegetables. I know Kirkman's sells a non-allergenic form of

Magnesium Citrate bulk powder that would be SCD legal. I believe many DAN docs

recommend this particular one as well...they also sell a flavored one with

fructose, which is not SCD legal, double check if you order from them.

Magnesium citrate works well in relieving constipation and hard poops because

it increases water in the intestines, and increases the ability of the

intestines to hold more water, thus softening stools and making movements more

often.

For emergenicies, I hear that making a tea out of bay leaves is also good for

moving stool, and would be SCD legal, provided Tom could tolerate it, but

magnesium citrate is safe for every day use.
