They worked on a questionnaire on alternative therapies to collect some preliminary data for a possible grant request in the future. I'm enclosing the questionnaire as attachment The purpose of this questionnaire is to gauge interest levels in chronic pain sufferers for alternative therapies and is at this stage, a gathering of preliminary data. They can't tell at this point whether or not (or when) a formal study might be undertaken. They are interested in finding out what treatments, both conventional and alternative, help chronic pain sufferers and this survey might help shape a future study. I hope you will be willing to help them. Please feel free to call the her at or email at nharrierpw@... if you have any questions or if the files don't transfer. By Alternative Therapies, we mean a wide range of what some people call non-traditional or non-Western therapies. Some examples you may have heard of are: vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements (such as ginko biloba, St. 's Wort, Echinacea); special diets especially those rich in vegetables, particularly organic vegetables, and foods without artificial additives. Other examples of Alternative Therapies that are not as well known are: acupuncture, acupressure, massage, guided imagery, hypnosis, meditation, biofeedback, and red light therapy. There is no obligation to you of any kind; we are simply gathering information. Your name will not be used. We ask that you answer honestly and share with us exactly what you think. Questions 1. Do you think Alternative Therapies can be effective? 2. Have you ever used an Alternative Therapy? 3. If yes, for what condition and what therapy/therapies did you try? 4. If yes, were you happy with the results? 5. If you have not tried an Alternative Therapy, do you have any specific reasons why you haven't? 6. Would you consider trying an Alternative Therapy to help relieve your abdominal pain, either alone or in combination with the medication you use now? 7. If the IU Medical Center had an Alternative Therapy Specialist to talk to or an office where you could get information on Alternative Therapies, would you make use of it? 8. Do you have any thoughts or concerns about Alternative Therapies you would like to share with us?
