spink1 and CP

Hi everyone,

I've been deep inthought for several days as we try and sort out new

information we received on Cassie. The whole family was tested for

Hereditary Pancreatitis as well as this SPINK1. Has anuone else out

there gone through this testing?

We have yet received the results on the Hereditary Pancreatitis but

have on the SPINK1> Cassie and I both test positive for it while my

son and husband don't have it.

It is a mutation on the 5th chromosome and it seems about 23% of

those we CP have this mutation. But having it does not necessarily

mean your going to get CP. When activated SPINK1 inhibites the

secreations of trypsin from the pancreas as well as to other essntial

amino acids. Without trypsin the body does not degrade protiens for

proper digestion.

I have a million questions related to this, Do I not feed her animal

protiens or do I. I've also found out about foods that contain

natural Trypsin inhibitors including, peanuts, legumes peas, egg

whites ans SOY!

Since Cassie 1st got sick I have always thought I had more symptoms

than she did. Bulky, clay colored, floating stools. I also know

that since I got pregnant with Cassie 13 years ago I have not been

able to eat eggs at all. Puts me in bed for days wishing I was dead

because of extreme pain. I've never sought treatment for it prior. `

So not only am I trying to cope with the fact that I gave this

mutation to her but I too have to worry about this disease.

Alot of what has happened with Cassie makes alot of sense. when i

stopped breastfeeding her she could not tolirate any formulas at

all. All are either animal based or soy based that might explain the

projectil vomit. We ended up giving her goats milk. Then we went

thru 9+ month of diareha everytime we tried to feed her anything

other than banana, apples, rice and Toast. Finally found a DR who

decided to test her stools over a period of several days. Turns out

she had no good intestanal flora only a pnumonea strain and yeast.

After several years of modified diet we finally started feeding her

like the rest of the world. Always with stomache aches and mystery

ick inbetween.

Anyway thanks hope you and yours all had a pain free day, God Bless

you all.
