Hi Suzanne,

You are so right. advice runs freely, but help is very thin on the ground.

It is another aspect to the whole autism thing, old friends fade away into the

distance. SCD brings such a weight of negative judgement from family & friends

not to mention schools (depriving a child of bread, cereal, potatoes & rice

seems to many, like a parent gone over the top) and a basically " its your own

fault for all the stress " , kind of attitude.

Honestly, sometimes the only support I have are the familiar names on this &

one or two other boards. The moderators on this board are always so helpful,

patient & encouraging.

The apple sauce drives me crazy too, because I use so much of it. My best

friend has been a big pot & freezer bags. I have " chicken stew days " , " cooking

bean days " ,

and " apple sauce days " whenever I catch the time. It is so nice to be able to

reach into the freezer & take out those instant meals. The first few months are

a struggle, but like everything else you get used to it.

Good luck,

Philomena Mom of 5 ASD SCD 15mths

Boy, it sure would be great if that were an option. We could use the

help. Hiring someone is out of the question. We're paying $60,000 a

year for Tom's ABA therapy, and I just lost my job. Our old friends

don't understand our life AT ALL and we rarely see them. We've asked

for help from our family and they just think we're complaining. Our

new friends, the ones who get it, are parents of autistic kids of

their own, and of course they already have their hands full. We live

in a state that provides no respite care funding.

I wish it were easy to get help, but we sure have tried in the past

and we've never found any.
