I just feel hungry on this diet...any thoughts. > Here's my issue: I can eat as much as I want on this diet, right? > But I just don't " like " the foods that I'm eating. I don't do that well with meats but do eat them. Gwen, I share your concerns. My son is not on the autism spectrum but does have Crohns and this is a major problem for him. Remicade - the actual process and potential side effects - scares him (and us) but he's still having a hard time. He doesn't like squash and misses bread. (And keeping kosher, I would have to have a non-dairy bread with his hamburgers, etc.) So I wish you luck, and send you the assurances that it is worth it and works. Hopefully, filling yourself up on the good stuff - tasty proteins, vegetables, etc. - will help with your cravings and let you be an example for your son. > Lastly, and i hope some of you actually try to get through this long > > email of mine, what about tests. Someone mentioned IGa tests. I > would feel better if we could test for dysbiosis/leaky gut and know > that we aren't cutting out all gluten free grains for naught. Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, I'm really trying to work out if this is the best diet for us...but I've gotten this far so I don't think it wise to back off now from the advice I get from SCDers. re: die off: I'm wondering about die off. I know we get die off symptoms from eating probiotics but we haven't been very religious about taking them yet. Ds does take enzymes and I know that there can be die off with them. I'm wondering if there is a die off from just doing the diet even without the yogurt? We have been eating yogurt but just store bought, 's brand. " Your son's chronic constipation issue indicates some gut problems which would lead to malabsorption and possibly be behind him being underweight. " I agree that the constipation has lead to the underweight issue. His constipation started a long time ago and then he was anemic at 12 months (probably had been that way for awhile), took iron supplements which I know destroys the gut flora too. So we were left with a pretty screwed up gut on his part. His anemia went away pretty fast but we maintained supplements with iron...a multivitamin. Now I think we are safe to go off plus there's lots of iron in the diet. I just wondered about whether the constipation could be lack of fiber? Or dehydration? I mean, does the SCD philosophy say that not taking in enough fiber is a symptom of leaky gut? Or that not drinking is a symptom? Will I see him more drawn to drinking water? I think he also didn't benefit from my being fairly malnourished while he was a baby. My milk supply had to have suffered. He dropped off the growth chart at around 12 months. He never gained it back. He never lost weight. I went to see a GI doc and that was horrible experience. I hope that some of you can help direct me to a good doc in the Denver area. I have some baggage around medical docs and even the naturopath/kinesiologist we saw was of no help. She said he didn't have dybiosis/leaky gut. " The intro diet is only for 2-5 days. 4-5 days maximum for those with diarrhea and 2-3 days for evrything else. " Yes, I think we should start over and do something a little more methodically. I'm still not sure what I'm looking for besides well formed bm's. My ds doesn't talk much about stomach pains. Any other suggestions of what to look for in terms of senstivities? And sense he doesn't have diarrhea normally, should be try for hte 2-3 days? " Milk is not SCD legal, but is okay when made into yogurt. What people are referring to is that they aren't healed sufficiently to be able to tolerate certain foods. " I'm assuming that raw milk isn't okay either? It's the lactose right. The raw milk advocates say that there the lactase in the raw milk helps us break down the milk. Some people with milk allergies can handle raw milk. Any thoughts? Secondly, I still don't know what people mean my " healed sufficiently " . I guess I'm looking for specifics. I have lived with insufficient healing for 35 years. I have had IBS ever since I can remember probably due to antibiotics. Remember how they used to prescribed like candy? I think I'll know what feeling healed looks like to me but I'm still confused. " Epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal may be helpful for both of you. " we do epsom salts every time we bathe. I've backed off on the dosage because of our gut pain. Is there any danger in taking charcoal without a doctor's supervision? Thank you for replying. It really means a lot to me that you took the time and effort in answering my questions. Having a life long issue of not being nurtured in this way, has left me weary with concern and worry for myself and my ds. I am working through the emotional stuff around this. ONe thing I discovered recently is that the IBS was enabling my depression...meaning I wanted to lay around on the couch and have an exuse to not participate in the world. Now, I'm working through my issues and ready to participate but am so much more aware of the brain fog and IBS symptoms!!!! I only wish my mother had pursued treatment for me way back when. Warmly, gwen luca almost 3 both on diet for 2 weeks, second time around.
