Guest guest Posted October 24, 2002 Report Share Posted October 24, 2002 ; I think that Jen has a valid point; there is also another bacterium, PNEUMOCOCCUS, which can indicate infection, but not necessarily pneumonia. Here in the usa, we do get " pneumo-vac " which protects against this bug, Klesciella, and numerous other bacteria likely to cause pneumonia in the general population--but not the " bugs " that most of us with cystic fibrosis usually get. There is also a childhood vaccine available here against haemophilus influenza, a bacterium, which in the general population causes middle ear infections and on occasion, infectious hepatitis in the general population.
