Hey!

I haven't been following as dilegently as I was when we started about

a month ago. But I saw the die off comments and thought I could share

my experience.

Ben, 16, Asperger's, GFCF for 4 years with terrific response. Went

SCD Jan. 1st. He had an undiagnosed fever (100-101 degrees) from

about day 3 to about day 16. Ill enough to be home some days. It was

very stressful as he had no other symptoms except big time runny nose

and then, due to that, upset stomach and soar throat for a few days.

Our nurse pract. did some general blood tests. She is familiar with

yeast issues, but not an expert. She said his blood tests indicated no

bacterial infection, but that some numbers were unusually high and it

indicated that the clean up cells were in overdrive--they eat dead

stuff in the blood--and that also it was indicative of a parasite

response. Whew! Ok, I'm a believer now.

We decided to bypass yogurt for several reasons and go to kefir. I

did a LOT of studying, research etc. on the grain starters. Long

story short, I was careful in how much I gave him over three days

(almond milk base) and boy, is he sick today. 104 degree fever, same

thing all over. I decided that kefir is a probiotic on steroids.

Just a thought on going slow...I was not slow enough. We are backing

off and starting again in a week. He feels awful, looks awful, and I

am stressed. It has been said that " Good change comes slow " . Well,

this a good example.

I always thought that Ben is not as ill as most of the kids in this

group, he is 6'1 " , healthy other than this, doing well unassisted in

school (A's and B's) been GFCF for 4 years. I thought we could move a

bit faster. Perhaps we can, but every kid is really different.

Everyone has been so helpful, I hope this helps someone!!
