Guest guest
Hi to all, Does anyone know where I can find the approximate proportion of rural vs urban Mexican origin for migrant farmworkers, nationally or in local surveys? I didn't see it in the NAWS. I am trying to finish a study on migrant farmworkers and alcohol and am comparing with studies done in Mexico, which are mostly of urban populations. Gracias! The question of urban vs. rural origin is a little tricky because it depends on how those terms are defined (Mexico, for example, has different criteria for what constitutes a village, town or city than we have in the US). In general, though, my sense is that the lion's share of Mexican farmworkers come from rural communities, and thus typically arrive with prior agricultural experience. But it would be interesting to know whether other listserv members have come across significant numbers of Mexican urban folks working as migrant farmworkers in the US or Canada. Best, R. Guest guest
have you tryed the united farm workers union? We do health acessments and see that some of the older drink and some of the younger also but it also depends how they were raised because not all of the workers drink heavily.Norma --------------Original Message------------- From: nerenber@...
