Guest guest
Hi Everyone: My computer was infected with a virus last night (the second time I've had this particular one). It is a virus called " kak.worm " that attaches itself to the signature line of an e-mail, so you don't even have to open an attachment to get infected -- just reading the e-mail will do it. I thought I'd send out this warning to everyone I had received e-mails from in the past few days so you could check your computers. Just scanning and cleaning your hard drive with a virus program is not enough to remove it - there are several additional steps you must take. I am attaching a link to a profile about the virus that includes instructions on how to remove it. It also includes a link to Microsoft, who recently put out a " patch " you can download to help plug in the " loophole " the virus gets around for infection. You especially need to do this if you have Outlook Express because that is the program with the loophole. If you don't use Outlook Express you are probably fine and don't need to worry about this. **********How you can tell if you have this virus: Go in Outlook Express and go to " tools " then to " options " then to " signatures " . If there is a signature file listed as " WScript.kak.worm " or something to that effect than your computer is infected and you will need to follow the steps listed in the link to remove it. You will also know you have it day after tomorrow, as on the first day of the month, beginning at 6pm the message " Kagou-Anti-Kro$soft says not today! " will be displayed on your screen. You also get a " fake " error message when you start up your computer that says " driver memory failed " or something like that. Please check your computers, and let me know if you need any help -- I just successfully removed it from my computer. And, you MUST follow all the steps or it will reinfect every time you re-boot your computer. Here is the link: http://vil.nai.com/vil/wsh10509.asp Or: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/wscript.kakworm.html It is hard to imagine people that devise these things just for cheap thrills!! Anyway, good luck and let me know if you need help. There are certainly worse viruses out there, but this one is still a pain -- I've spent half my morning fixing it.
