Guest guest
I have recently gone through my fifth photoderm treatment with Dr. Jay in NYC and wanted to share my experience with all of you. I am overall very pleased with the result. I am planning to have a sixth and last session in the next few weeks in order to treat a specific area where some redness remains. English is not my first language so please forgive any grammatical errors. A. BACKGROUND I am a 33-year-old male that suffered from moderate rosacea started 6-7 years ago that reached the point where my life was considerable conditioned by the disease (socially, psychologically...). I am dark skinned and have had extensive sun exposure during my life. This is apparently the worst type of skin to be treated with photoderm. B. RESULTS 1. Distinct blood vessels: Clearance of over 80% 2. Overall redness. Clearance of over 75% 3. Itching/Burning/Flushing: Reduction of over 85% 4. Oiliness of face: Reduction of over 70% 5. Immflamatory/Swelling: Reduction of over 60%. In a friendly environment without excessive exposure to triggers such as stress, heat, humidity, lack of sleep, the symptoms detailed above are gone. When significantly exposed to triggers, they still develop but overall at least 70%-75% less than previous to the treatment. Regarding symptoms 4 & 5, I am unsure how much is due to rosacea and how much to my own skin behavior. 6. Overall improvement in skin texture, particulary in sun damage related problems. Also in mild acne scars. Although not as much improvement as with symptoms specifically related to rosacea, I found photoderm to have very nice " side effects " . C. THE TREATMENT Overall I found it very mild with no negative side effects. Some redness after each treatment that cleared in less than 24 hours. The next day or couple of days after treatment the skin felt a bit sensible. In the first treatment, the doctor used very low settings in order to check the response from the skin. Also different settings in different areas for the same reason. Not much improvement although I could see that it worked which made me very pleased. Second and third treatments the doctor was much more aggressive based on results from previous sessions. Significant improvement. Fourth and fifth sessions were more specifically directed to small areas targeting the few distinct vessels and redness that remained from the previous sessions. Improvement continued to show. The skin seems to keep improving for one to two weeks after each session. I understand however that each person has different results depending on their skin and the stage of their rosacea. I had my treatments with intervals of approximately 4 weeks. D. DR. HARVEY JAY Dr. Jay demonstrated not only very extensive knowledge of the disease and its treatment, but also a very human and honest approach to his profession and the people he treats. He really cares about his patients. Before visiting Dr. Jay I was seen by 3 dermatologists who did not seem to understand the disease at all. Dr. Jay treats himself all the patients. He has treated patients of all skin types and with different problems and side effects from other treatments. He has been treating rosacea with photoderm for over 5 years (one of the most experienced). His staff is very friendly and the whole team make you fell at ease while you are at their office which by the way is located in a nice neighborhood. They were always willing to accommodate me in terms of appointments since I live in Florida and had to travel to NY for treatment. I understand for what I have read in this group that other doctors charge less for photoderm treatment. For me, having to fly from Florida and stay at a hotel in NYC, it was not cheap, but it was worth it. I found the price reasonable given that I was on the hands of one of the best professionals in the field. The Photoderm machine is highly sophisticated and each persons skin is and reacts differently. After my treatment, I am completely convinced that for good results it needs to be operated by a very experienced, well-trained doctor. I would also like to thank Dr. Geoffrey Nase for all his " non-for-profit " work that has helped so many rosacea sufferers. I know that each case is different and not everyone has had good results with photoderm. For what I have researched and my own experience it seems to be the best solution if properly applied. I really hope you find this email helpful, if you have specific questions or want additional information, please send me an email. Best regards, AT - Florida __________________________________________________
