Guest guest
Dear Kiki, DAN stands for Defeat Autism Now. But you may can also prevent it. DAN MDs specialize in the gut-brain connection, thus could be of help to your daughter. Jeni Lynn, a mother on this list also has a little one... she is doing SCD and chelating , as her child's heavy metal toxicity was caught early.... a DAN MD is assisting her. Agape, kikijabunce ajbunce@...> wrote: I read alot about DAN. What does this stand for and what does it mean? We have been battling " celiac disease " /malabsorption of the intestines for over a year now. With lots of experimentaiton we went from traditional gluten free diet/dairy free, to paleo(grain free/milk free/potato and leguem free) back to gluten free/paleo and now we are newcombers to the SCD. What a year, it has been up and down with success and we want a change for the better. We wittness our daughter do her best regarding autistic related behaviors when eating close to SCD...but did not realize that " close " does not cut it until I reviewed Elaine's book, reading it again in desperation for 100% remission. I have learned now understand that it has to be " fanatical adherance " ....I look forward to all of her autistic problems disappearing. Is this hope to high? We are now on day four and already seeing improvement...white coated tongue is disappearing. Has anybody wittnessed a miracle/cure and all autistic behaviors vanish. She will be two this Spring and is still not talking. Will not participate in speech therapy, due to her inability of coping with strangers and being outside of her comfort zone: mommies arms or home. Yet most behviors of " fadding out " , " not responding when talked too " , night terrors (where she does not recognize who I am), and so much more happens much less now. She has yet to be professionaly diagnosed as " autistic " ...is this needed...or will she " heal " out of this conditon? Do I need professional help, or just this diet? Thanks for your reply. Guest guest
Hey! My vote is for professional help. All of the symptoms that you describe in your daughter are symptoms that my infant had. We were fortunate enough to get an appointment with a fantastic DAN quickly, attain guidance on how to heal Elle (my infant), and are seeing really great progress. We were pointed to SCD by our DAN, but there are also other things we are pursuing to help Elle, my baby. Our DAN and nutritionist designed a supplemental protocol specifically to meet Elle's individual metabolic problems and nutritional deficiencies (and they have been working with me to make this protocol SCD legal). We are also trying to " purify " her environment so that her exposure to toxins will be limited as much as possible. And we are chelating because Elle had very significant heavy metal toxicity. Sometimes, you need to hit these disorders from a couple different angles to get the best results. A DAN is going to help you figure out what you daughter's specific problems are and help you address them as efficiently as possible. You have found a good starting point. SCD will definitely help your daughter. Some people do see dramatic improvements with SCD as it not only heals the gut but it also serves as a chelator over time. However, I would encourage you to take the next step as well. These disorders are so puzzlesome. A DAN is going to help you make sense of a lot of it. Jeni Lynn SCD 1 week mom to Margeaux, 5 yr. (add, gastrointestinal problems, heavy metal toxicity) , 3 yr. (gastrointestinal problems) and Elle, 16 mo. (leaky gut, eczema, heavy metal toxicity) SCD since 12/1/05 She has yet to be professionaly diagnosed as " autistic " ...is this needed...or will she " heal " out of this conditon?
