Guest guest
Hi Missy, I had the MGB 5/15 and about post-op day 3 I was ravenous! I added some frozen protein popsicles (by Blue Bunny/Health Smart) in fudge/vanilla swirl that really helped, but I never felt full. the hunger finally subsided around day 12 and now I have to remind myself to eat. Hang in there, you still have alot of gas on your new tummy and it takes alittle time to dissipate. Hope this helps. > Hey guys!!!! > > It's me again. I'm back at work and feeling fine - > except for a little weakness. Come on now, post-ops, > tell the truth ----how long did you stay on liquids? > How long are we supposed to stay on liquids? I am > starving and absolutely sick of soup and jello. > Somebody please tell me when I can eat something!!!! > Other than feeling weak and a little dizzy, I really > don't feel much different. I am very worried about > , though... haven't seen a post. And Della - hey > girl - u making it? Glad to see your post and to hear > you're hungry as I am! And the Citrucel - ughhhhhhh - > can hardly get it down! > -Missy > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
<< Come on now, post-ops, tell the truth ----how long did you stay on liquids? I followed the good doctor's suggestions: three months. Used yogurt, juices, Gatorade, clear soups, bouillons, juiced veggies, juiced fruits, made smoothies, ate unsweetened applesauce, nonfat cottage cheese, sugar-free jello...sugar-free puddings. When things got hairy, I made sure that I had plenty of V8 on hand. Other than feeling weak and a little dizzy, I really don't feel much different. Don't forget to drink a lot of Gatorade and V8. We desperately need to have the potassium ion working in our blood system; it keeps the veins open to carry the other nutrients throughout our bodies. No salt/potassium, the veins begin to narrow, and we become weak, irritable and fatigued. When I left the hospital on day 8 after my surgery, Dr. R told me to drink V8 and Gatorade, and not be afraid to nibble on a saltine cracker or two for the salt/potassium. Try to lay down for twenty minutes after you eat anything or take your meds; our new tummies empty in about 30 minutes and we need to help them hold on to the food until we get used to the newness of it all. Keep in mind that our new tummies don't need to take the full 60 to 90 minutes the Carafate talks about waiting before we eat or drink anything. We only have to wait about 30 minutes. The prescription directions are written for those who have normal-sized tummies and the " old " plumbing system. And the Citrucel - ughhhhhhh - can hardly get it down! I found that using the Citrucel with warm/lukewarm water helped me drink it down. I use the little plastic 3-ounce cups, put the warm water in, mix in about a teaspoon of Citrucel and down that puppy before I can think about it! We can certainly take the Citrucel in less than the tablespoon size mentioned on the container...we just take it a little more often until the full serving size Dr. R recommends is done for the day. Relax! I've used o.j. to knock it back and I still prefer just plain warm water. You'll do just fine! Give yourself some leeway and relax.
