Guest guest
For a while, I was able to get an improvement in my rosacea from taking 50 mg/day of doxycycline monohydrate. But whenever I tried to stop, my rosacea would get worse. (I know some of us have discussed the rebound effect when you try to quit antibiotics, which makes the rosacea seem even worse than it was before you started, even thought most derms don't acknowledge this.)So I got a prescription for Periostat, which is 20 mg. of doxycycline, to see if maybe I could maintain improvement on that low of a dosage. Unfortunately, it didn't make any difference in my skin. I think it was just too low a dose. (One derm I've seen maintains that any dose of doxycycline lower than 100mg/day for rosacea won't get results.) BTW, I now have to take 100 mg. of doxycycline to see any improvement in my skin. I'm not sure if this is a result of my rosacea just progressing as time goes on, or a result of antibiotics becoming less effective the longer you take them. I suspect the latter. Anyone have a similar experience of having to increase their antibiotic dose over time to get the same results?
