Guest guest
Question regarding Adam's statements below: Are you saying that you need to be off of minocycline before you can have photoderm therapy? How does Zithromax differ from Minocycline? By the way, I'm completely paranoid about coming off minocycline also. I'm convinced that minocycline has caveats that are troubling me. For example; 1. Extreme sensitivity and " thin skin " . I can't scratch my face without leaving a mark for hours. Friday night I went to a ball game with my daughter--the afternoon sun and wind left my face red and blotchy. I still haven't completely recovered from that. But I really should have out on a sun screen before I went out. I started using Purple Emu for Redness and Blemish control on Saturday evening along with the mositurizer. So far its been working out well. 2. I mentioned to the list that I came off minocycline for a week about two weeks ago. I had the largest breakout of hive like acne in my life. I was doing a few things that may have caused this, but coming off minocycline may have been a trigger. 3. I'm very tired all the time now. Exercise is becoming increasingly difficult, but I'll never stop! 4. Joint pain. 5. I still have redness and oil after 2 months of being on minocycline. But in fairness, I do have improvement in fewer papules and oil control. My derm had me on Nicosyn (accurate spelling for those of you who asked last time. sodium sulfacetamide 10%, sulfer 5%)Last week I did 3 nights of retin-a micro which made me slightly more red ( I used very little), but it removed nearly all of my hive like acne. I have an appointment with the derm this evening. I plan to persue a few treatments with Photoderm and request accutane after I've completed the photoderm treatments. - Art Message: 5 Date: Sun, 28 Apr 2002 21:49:27 -0400 Subject: Antibiotics - Switching from Minocycline to Zithromax I told the nurse at my derm's office that I want to be off antibiotics by my birthday (July 27th). She said thats fine, but first she wants me to switch from Minocycline (100mgs 2x daily) to Zithromax. (250mgs 3x weekly) I told her about Photoderm and how I cant do anything to make myself flush for a while. She said it shouldnt be a problem. But I've been screwed over by a doctor/derm's complete lack of knowledge way more than once now, and don't wanna just take her word for it. Does anyone here know if switching from Minocycline to Zithromax will cause a flare? I flared real bad when I tried to quit my Minocycline cold-turkey, but I guess the theory is if I switch from one antibiotic to the other I should be ok? Any thoughts? Guest guest
Thers no problem with Minocycline together with Zithromax. My problem is before I started Minocycline, I had acne-free skin. I went on it for cea that consisted ONLY of redness and flushing. now a year later I have over 200 little red bumps mixed with a few pustules all over my face. I also had a weird Eczema-like rash on my arm and weird rashes on my body when I take a shower, and weird breakouts to food and all this other stuff... My derm has been absolutely NO help in identifying the problem, which makes me SO mad because I'm pretty sure he's to blame for it in the first place.. But my best guess is that one way or another this is being caused by the Minocycline, and I want to get off it, and all antibiotics. The nurse I saw wanted me to go on Zithromax for a month or two first. She thought it might help re-clear some of the stuff, and then I could ween off it a bit easier since its pulse-dosed anyway. Where Photoderm comes in is like you I had a terrible flare when I tried to stop minocycline on my own. I'm afraid of having a similar flare when I stop the Minocycline and start the Zithromax. This is really bad for me right now because if you flush alot after your Photoderm treatments, the theory is that will make the treatments much less effective (cuz the blood vessels are growin' back damaged again) Antibiotics - Switching from Minocycline to Zithromax > > I told the nurse at my derm's office that I want to be off > antibiotics by my birthday (July 27th).
