Re: one test result says yeast/bacteria, another says none

I've had the same thing happen. My DAN has explained it by saying

that the comprehensive stool analysis is not as thorough as the

microbial test, since it's looking for bacteria/yeast actually present

in the stools. The microbial tests for by-products of bacteria/yeast

in the urine. You do, however, have to be careful interpreting the

arabinose number (microbial indicator for yeast) since that's

apparently a byproduct of lots of fruit as well. Anyway, we had no

clostridia or yeast show up even in our stool test from our scope

biopsies, but did have the byproduct indicators show up in our

microbial test. We treated with vancomyacin (for clostridia) and

flagyl/diflucan (for yeast) and my son improved behaviorally, so I do

think he had these issues despite the negative stool results.

I know it's confusing, but I hope that's a bit helpful. What does

your doctor say?
