Guest guest
Three weeks ago my derm gave me Protopic to try. I applied it on my upper lip and lower cheeks (all areas where I had a weird rash but NO flushing). Five days after starting I had to stop. I had a TON of increased redness/flushing, especially after getting out of my shower. I haven't used Protopic now in a little over two weeks. The redness went away. Except every time I shave now, the dark, Protopic-induced redness comes back, just as dark and painful as it did when I was applying it. It Only happens where I applied the Protopic. (if it matters I shave right after I shower) You can tell EASILY by looking at my face after I shave EXACTLY where on my cheeks I applied the Protopic. The area never used to flush or even get red, but now every time I shave it is alot darker red/purple than anywhere else on my face (even worse than my worst flush areas). It still burns too, and the redness/burning will usually take about an hour or so to subside. My first guess was that somehow there was some protopic stuck on my razor, because it only seems to happen when I shave (every other trigger including food/sun does not affect this area), but the only areas that seem to be being affected are the areas where I had applied it a few weeks ago. Anywhere that I shave now that I didn't apply the protopic to before, isn't getting red and sore like this. I'm sure the protopic is involved at least in some way however, because as I said this is ONLY happening EXACTLY where I applied the protopic. Other than this, and some weird acne, my skin hasn't looked this good in quite a while. My overall redness on the rest of my face is down considerably (I think Photoderm is working). I'm not quite sure what to make of this because my flushing everywhere else is doing so well.... Is this typical of a protopic reaction? Taking weeks to stop occurring? It seems to me that something caused directly by the protopic applications would have worn off over a week ago, so I think there's something more to this... can anybody clue me in as to what might be going on?
