purple emu redness cream - long

Hi Summer-

I have been using Purple Emu anti-redness/blemish creme along w/ the emu oil

intense moisterizing creme (they sent a sample for no charge - not sure if

they do that all the time). I started using the creme on Feb 8th.

After reading your post, all I can suggest is to apply the creme once a day

rather than the 2x you started with. But it looks like you figured that out

already! You also mention using the emu oil. I am not using that; instead,

I am using a sample of intense moisturzing creme that they sent w/ my order.

I have seen on the list that perhaps the straight oil causes big problems

for some. Also, the soap may be aggrivating things a bit. I would

recommend trying Aveeno Creamy Baby Cleanser or Cetiphal (sp??) bar soap

(not the liquid). Or, depending on how much makeup you use, maybe skip the

soap. Also, I would not wash more than once a day.

Here's my experience thus far: when I got the creme, I did a patch test on

my chin. I had no immediate problem w/ that, so 8 hours later (at bed time)

I applied an extremely thin layer to JUST my papules (I had a few along my

nose, some faint ones on my chin & a flaky group on my cheek), followed by

the moisturizer. The next morning, the papules on my cheek were almost

gone, & the ones along my nose were shrinking along with the ones on my

chin. I saw no ill effects (redness, peeling, swelling, etc) in the areas

that I applied the creme to.

So, the second night, I applied the creme to my entire face, followed by a

thin coat of the moisturizer. It caused a faint flush & felt a little warm,

but that subsided pretty quickly.

By about the 3rd-4th night, the skin around my nose, mouth & along my

cheekbones was flaking somewhat, but I developed no new papules. I did

however get the beginnings of a real pimple on my chin (I should add that I

was now on vacation & flying stresses me out). But, to my surprise, the

redness creme knocked the pimple right back, & it is completely gone now (I

thought is was going to be a big cystic type one). The pimple never even

formed a head -- it just shrank away in less than 5 days.

So, it has now been 11 days. Yesterday (2/18) was the first time I applied

the redness creme 2x in one day (am & pm). I have had to layer the

moisturizing creme on pretty heavy to combat the drying (flaking skin &

drawn, tight areas around my mouth), but I have noticed that that is getting

better, too -- that's why I decided to use the creme 2x in one day.

I now have no papules/pustules whatsoever (although I haven't had a serious

problem w/ them in the past few years). I have noticed that the pores on &

around my nose seem smaller, & that my nose is not as greasy as usual. I

can't say for certain that blushing has changed, although I've noticed that

my nose doesn't get as severely red in the cold as it typically does.

Unfortunately, I also use cure Anti-redness creme (by Canderm), and I

may finally be seeing results from that now (it's been 3 months since I

started that).

Overall my skin is soft, no bumps & not too flaky. I use Jane Iredale loose

amazing base powder, but if I flush I can see it through the makeup. I have

observed that my nose doesn't seem as crimsom after drinking a couple

glasses of red wine as it has in the past, so something is working here.

For example, prior to starting the purple emu, I would often layer on the

Jane Iredale to cover AND relieve the heat on my nose from a flare (I think

the zinc helps). Since starting the PE creme, I haven't had to do that --

sure, I turn pink, but not RED.

For reference, here's my little ritual:

AM: apply cure on unwashed face

PM: wash w/ Aveeno Creamy Baby Cleanser, apply purple emu redness creme, let

that sit for 15 mins or so, then apply a good layer of the intense

moisturizer creme sample (I LOVE that stuff!) I use a washcloth to

exfoliate a bit, but I don't go too crazy.

And drink tons of water. They call me Liberace because I am the pianist!

I hope that helps some! I think you need to not be so aggresive with your

approach, although it sounds like the creme is helping with your papules.

It may even be a good idea to not use the creme for a few days, then start

again slowly.

Take care-
