One thing I have learned from this board and reading about rosacea is that it

can

take many forms. Recently when I was at the dermatologists', I spoke with a

woman

with rosacea whose skin was pale and without blemishes. Her cheeks and chin

were

so puffy they were pulled tight and her pores were quite large.

I flush at times but my main problems are skin dryness and irritation with some

blemishes. I used to get flakes but they disappeared when I stopped using a

cleanser with alcohol in it. However, like you, the texture of my skin has

worsened noticeably. I am in my mid-fifties so you could put it down to age but

the texture changes started with the rosacea. I have many fine lines and solar

elastosis. It also seems that the skin in the rosacea areas of my face is

thickened. My dermatologist seems to think this is age-related but it seems

more

than coincidence that the changes began with the rosacea and continue with the

progression of the rosacea. If it were age-related wouldn't it be all over my

face and not just in the rosacea areas?

Regarding your oily underneath and dry surface, I have read that when the skin

is

overly dry, the oil glands produce more oil to help the surface skin.

Sorry I don't have any answers.
