Guest guest
With our cf child it depended on her enzymes how we did it; kid has a higher tolerance for many fats and oils than I do, so I increase calor ies with protein and carbohydrates (complex) and needed fat/oil; kid probably eats more fat in proportion to proteins and carbohydrates than I do (we both have cf). Kid still, as an adult, starts the day with a giant milkshake of Instant Breakfast, whole milk, ICE CREAM, and sometimes chocolate syrup (if the Instant Breakfast is not Chocolate flavored. Also, does not have CFRD (cystic fibrosis related diabe tes) and I do, so kid has a wider leeway. Kid is enthusiastic about vegetables AND MEAT AND brown rice, wheat berry bread--and, HAM, BEEF, LAMB, TOFU, the latter which I cannot digest. I guess we just watched and learned. There is no law against throwing pow dered non-fat milk into those mashed potatoes along with milk, half and half (not the bear/ale!) and butter or other fat/oil--and a LOT can be throan into either meatloaf or the vegetarian version. Just do not give up, and let your child know that YOU enjoy food, too, I think. n Rojas, wcf mom of 3 adult " kids, " youngest with cystic fibrosis
