FIrst, I think it is a compliment that these people care enough about you to be concerned. BUT... it really is your decision. I would hand a patient manual to anyone who really wouldn't drop it and say, here.... after you have invested as much time as I have in learning about THIS procedure, let's talk... I also said to a few people, " let's see, do you think a diabetic should not take insulin.....? " I was amazed at the support I got. I waited until the surgery was scheduled and then just made the announcement. I gave out Dr. R's website address and told people if they wanted to check it out, that was the place to go. A few really dear friends DID check out the web site because they wanted to KNOW all the ins and outs of what their friend was doing. These same people fed my family for the first week or so after surgery too. SO... no matter what, you get to decide. Most of these people are talking about what worked for THEM and not about what worked for you and people like us. I also told people that EVEN if I could lose all my excess weight (for me 200 lbs) I had less than a 2% chance of keeping it off. This surgery offered me a CHANCE to keep off whatever I lost permanently. Good luck to you. These same people will become your biggest advocates when they see how well you do!
