Guest guest
Ken wore compression hose for many years. I have told this story before, but it does explain how well they work. Ken was in the hospital with one of his bouts with infection, and it was time to try to get him walking again. His doctor ordered a new pair of hose which were taken off and hung by his bed at night. We had a sign up warning not to give him BP lowering medication under any circumstances. Evidently these hose are also used by some patients only at night, but for Ken they were to prevent blood pooling and causing him to faint when he stood up. The nurse called his doctor when she saw them and asked if he should wear them and was told yes, on his regular schedule. So, she put them on him at night. His BP went very high as it always did at night, and since an oncall doctor had told them to get him up when that happened, they got him up. BUT, his BP did NOT go down! He had the stockings on! So the nurse called his doctor who said, " For God's sake, take the stockings off and leave the poor man alone and let him sleep! The BP variations are his normal condition. " So, I guess the stockings do do the job, at least some of the time. Barbara
