Amantidine and muscle stiffness

Annette has been on Amantidine for the past month with little or no

benefit. She was instructed to raise the dose to 300 mg/day. I wonder what

benefit others have gotten from this if any. Her main problem is poor

balance and this was supposed to help.

Another issue. She has stiffness in her legs which makes walking painful at

times. Have others experienced this? What can one do about it?

Thanks for any advice.

Yes I have. It has yet to be addressed. Keeping my legs warmer than

the rest of me (blanket) while sitting does help a bit. Mostly I

waddle and grimace my way through it, eases up after moving around a

bit.

Marty,

Amantadine is not really for balance. It helps with some of the PD symptoms

and is an anti-viral medicine. The stiffness in the legs is a PD like symptom

probably (rigidity). Have they tried her on Sinemet or Baclofen. They

sometimes help with rigidity.

Take care, Bill Werre
