Designs by ©Stationery HeavenI forgot to ask the home nurse, is there a safe

blood pressure for my husband, and what is a concern that I should call the

doctor? They have him on the two different blood pressure medicines and

they are helping somewhat. Thanks a bunch! Blessings! Shirley

Shirley,

It is more a question of keeping your husband comfortable and out of danger than

exact pressure. In general you want to keep his BP under something like 160/95

and over something like 60/40. If his BP goes above that, sit him up or raise

his head until it goes below that. If he goes below that, lay him down or have

him sit to get it up. Another thing that can help is food and water (clear

liquid) - if his BP goes up - feed him to help lower the BP. If his BP goes

down, give him some liquid (non-caffinated and at least 8 oz) - it will help

raise his BP.

A couple of bricks under the top of the bed frame will help keep the reclining

BP down a little and an extra pillow can also help adjust it more. BUT the

bricks are important as the feet need to be below the waist a little.

The best plan is to work on getting the sitting BP to the average range (around

120/80) if at all possible. There are no absolutes with MSA, you must find what

works best for him.

Take care, Bill Werre

Bill,

I am so glad I read this because I didn't know about putting the

bricks under the headboard.

Thanks,

Belinda
