Guest guest
Hello all. I'm brand new to this site, with only a week to go before my jaw surgery. I teach college and need a REALISTIC estimate of when I will be able to teach my classes. (Lots of talking required). Also, when did most of you start to eat solid food? And finally, are there any singers out there? I know my jaw will be " tight " for a while..........I'm wondering when I'll be able to sing comfortably. Thanks! Guest guest
Depends a lot on what you're having done, and what your docs need to keep you healing. I was not wired, nor banded, after lower advancement. But... My surgeon was very annoyed because, as he put it, " You like to talk, a lot. " He kept telling me not to do so, for a couple of months. Maybe your instance is different. An idea: How about posting a question, in writing, and let the students answer?? Might that work. Or a bunch of questions? Or even projecting computerized conversation/sounds? Encouraging alternate modes of communication, and yes, there are a bunch. Starting with a dry-erase board, but I'd hope you have access to chalkboards, too. When I was a ninfant college music student, I was required to do a lot of chalkboard work. It was nasty, but that's because my prof was, too. (I know this from friends much more talented than am I.) I think it could have been WONDERFUL if the lady (And I use the term advisedly) had not been such a witch. As for singing... Well, I can tell you that some folks have found their tone and timbre altered, but generally for the better. As I hope yours will be, too. Just don't expect to open up widely for a while...
