Hi Christy,

How different your husband will look will depend on what is done and

how much his jaw is moved. Some people look the same afterwards and

others have a dramatic change, usually for the better. Again, how

much pain people have and when they can eat again, varies from

person to person. Your surgeon can probably give you a better idea

about that.

About your baby, you won't have to worry about her. She'll know her

Daddy by the feel of him, his smell (I don't mean that in a bad way)

and by the sound of his voice no matter what he looks like. My

daughters were 12 months and 2 1/2 years when I had my first surgery

and they never seemed to notice the change in my appearance. She'll

love the extra time with her Daddy and she'll be a great comfort to

him when they can snuggle together on the couch.

The best thing you can do for him is just be there for him. He'll

have his good days and his bad days and just let him vent when he

does. Don't take it personally if he takes out his frustrations on

you. I'm afraid I've used my husband as my personal punching bag

(not literally!) way too often in my early post-op days but he's

always been there for me.

I wish your husband a successful surgery and smooth recovery.
