Guest guest
Belinda, You asked: >Oh one more thing I have noticed my left arm wanting to > lay on my chest. Should I not allow that to happen while I can? > God bless, > Belinda I know little about this aspect of neurological illness. I would think that you would want to stretch the the arm gently in the direction it is not wanting to go. So, besides not letting it lay on your chest, you might consider coming up with two types of stretches and doing them a couple of times during the day, perhaps holding the stretch for 15 seconds. These are things others on the board may know more about. And a physical therapists would be a great help. Just a 15 minute appointment would probably do the trick for that issue. I just have my GP prescribe those sessions, and my neuro is happy that I am doing the PT. The beginning of symptoms is intriguing, how you can feel certain things going wrong. It is comforting for someone else to discuss this aspect of neurolical illness. Thank you. As for me, the neurologist said that I am starting to have some dystonia in my neck. My neck had a mind of its own for a few months and would tilt over for brief contractures. Then I had been feeling one side drawing up (painful) and the other side pulling over. (Hindsight probably gave me an idea of what was going on, rather than knowing it at the time.) Then a couple of weeks ago my neck got completely stuck over to the side, very painful. I finally released some and then went back over. After twenty minutes or so, I started stretching it the other way. My doctor happened to call about something else during this time, and we talked about my neck. I realize that dystonia can last days etc.. But, it seems what you are getting at is the feeling of the beginning of a new symptom. What are we to do, you ask, about that aspect of the illness? We try not to worry about impending symtoms, but some we can really notice. I have had more trouble but not too bad. I just did start some new stretches with a thera-band attached to the door. I hope stretching helps what is happening to your arm. Bear in mind, I am not saying you are having dystonia. Rather, I was using my story as an example. Guest guest
Zac, Thank you for your reply. I have CBGD and I try to keep up as much as possible with both yahoo support groups. It is a lot easier to keep up with the CBGD support group because they don't have many people posting on it. There are only 2 that have this disease that does post the rest are caregivers. Sometimes I have a question for the other support group and forget and ask it in this support group. So if sometimes I sound off the wall that might be why. Maybe. I might just be off the wall. hehe.
