Guest guest
Hi gang, I recently came across an excellent book of exercises for people with Parkinson's disease, which is applicable for the most part to MSA patients as well. It's called Parkinson's Disease and the Art of Moving, by Argue and is published by New Harbinger Publications, Inc. (www.newharbinger.com). They caught my attention with the very first paragraph: "Many of the people who need this book cannot read it. Their eyes cannot follow lines of print reliably. Reading tires them quickly. Many of the people who need to learn the exercises in this book cannot remember a pattern of movement the day after they learned it. They will need someone to read the exercise directions one at a time while they go through them." We haven't started to work on the exercises yet, but they include stretches, balance exercises, floor exercises and voice and speech exercises. They recommend an hour a day of exercise. It looks good! It can be ordered on line from New Harbinger. Carol & Rob Lexington, MA
Guest guest
Thanks Carol, The PT was here for an evaluation and didn't even recommend exercises for Jerry. I have noticed that he is getting weaker and I think some exercises would help. I will order the book. Also noticed that his watch was not keeping proper time. He is left handed and the watch was on his left arm, the watch winds itself with the movement of the arm. He thought it needed to be serviced (service had been performed the month before). I had him put the watch on the other arm and sure enough it runs just fine. I would never have noticed that he is not using his left (dominant) hand. I now observe his arm movements more closely and he is holding that arm still and using his right hand more. He doesn't complain of any stiffness or pain and he doesn't even realize he isn't using it. We will look into exercises but it seems odd that he doesn't use it as there is no pain. Neuro stuff is very confusing. Thanks again, Jan > Hi gang, > > I recently came across an excellent book of exercises for people with Parkinson's disease, which is applicable for the most part to MSA patients as well.
