Guest guest
<< OMG! Thank you Ceep. I'm having a kinda crappy day and needed a laugh and you posted just at the right time. Your insight and humour are always dead on. Thanks, Gallagher >> you hang in there , and incidentally, everyone hang in there. THESE ARE THE HOLIDAYS when the spirits of Thanksgiving PAST,THANKSGIVING PRESENT and THANKSGIVING FUTURE COME TO VISIT, BIDDEN, BUT MOSTLY UNBIDDEN. Really, 1. Don't try to do everything, leave some for others to do, and if it ain't gonna be done cause you don't do it, leave it undone. Peope don't need ten turkeys (you being one of them) and seventeen appetizers and forty-five kinds of potatos. Why would you be wanting to teach them your first name should have been 'cafeteria.'? 2. Its everyone's holiday to create, not just yours to create for everyone else. You're supposed to love your famly, not wind up hating them because you overdo it and overextend yourself and then resent it when they don't salam properly in gratitude. 3. Every family has their troll; try to be nice to the troll(s) just for a few hours every year. They do go back to their nests under the bridges. 4. The point of holidays is to make memories together that are decent enough, hopefully somewhat funny, and not just one mor year of: 'and then the blood ran like a river....' 5. Stop trying to make your mother-in-law, daughter, father, whomever into a nice person. Let them be a smoking dragon off in the corner by themselves. Air the house out after. Better yet, start having dinner " out " so you can leave whenever you want, and your home environs remain inhabited only by you and yours under your own control. 5a. Never try to say ice-milk is ice cream. 6. Never try to substitute anything for the pumpkin in pumpkin pie. 7. Never try to pass off soy roll as turkey. 8. If the turkey falls on the floor and the door is closed, pick it up and wash it off and tell it it was a bad turkey to try to run away at the last minute like that... 9. If the turkey falls on the floor and the door is open and people see what happened, tell them it is an old country ritual, called turkey bowling, and it is now their turn next. 10. Give them salami /pepperoni chips nuked the way reba/bill and others onlist have suggested. 11. Do not let anyone, even jokingly, call you 'the dumpster'--there are something that even though funny, are not funny on holidays. 12. refuse doing, saying, lifting, eating ANYTHING you want. Just look very sad and murmer, " Adhesions, you know....) 13. if anyone is jealous of you, tell them you have terrible gas problems and you hope they won't mind if you have to 'let one' once in a while... When they tell other people you said this to them, deny it. Say you can't imagine why they would be making up such a thing. Thereby, their jealously will be revealed for all to see. (evil, evil ceep made me write that) 12.put your favortie piece of advice for holidays here.... Okay guys and gals, what are your favorite gb-er advices for the holidays?? (for me, the premiere one is stay away from jellied cranberry sauce... Lost a whole thanksgiving day that way the first year out on just one teaspoon of the stuff....grin love, Ceep

Guest guest
> 6. Never try to substitute anything for the pumpkin in pumpkin pie. A couple of years ago our support group had a Christmas get-together and I had found a recipe for Mock Pecan Pie. It was made -- of all things -- of PINTO BEANS!!! Honest to God! I substituted the sugar with splenda and brought the pie, but didn't tell anyone what was in it...just that it was " protein " and had no sugar and was legal for us WLS's..... It wasn't half bad, and everyone was shocked when I told them what the " pecans " were...but I'll take the REAL STUFF any day!! KC
Guest guest
My advice for the holidays is to relax, enjoy and not stress.. Do only what you feel up to doing, and no more.. After all, you have relatives and friends that you will be sharing the holidays with,,, they can do some of the chores too.. Make time for you.. take a long, hot bubble bath, get a manicure/ pedicure, facial, full body massage, etc.. I am getting a full hour and half body massage Saturday and then off to friends house to partake in the chili cookoff and Ga/ Ga Tech football game.. Go Dawgs!!! Guest guest
I would only wish that we all could do this.. I am planning on a very relaxed and stress free holiday season this year.. Of course, working in retail may not be so stress free.. but I am trying my best to take one day at a time.. and not stress.. I am making time for myself to get pampered.. massages, manicures/ pedicures, having hair done, etc.. those kind of things.. and a nightly long, hot soak in a bubble bath.. Hugs,
