How much $ for lower jaw surgery only? Approx.?

Can anyone tell me how much it would cost for lower jaw surgery? I am

going to have to pay out of pocket, I am pretty sure of that at this

point. To have the lower jaw bone cut shorter and pushed back. Just a

rough estimate. $20,000, $30,000, 40,000? Thanks, patti

Hi, Patti:

I am scheduled for lower surgery early summer, moving the jaw back,

too. I am paying out of pocket as well. (Yuck.) I live in

land, and my surgeon quoted me $5000 for the surgery, about

$1000 for the anesthesiologist, and about $8000 for the hospital

room, 23 hour stay. The hospital is what he couldn't quote me on

for sure, but that was his guess. I figured on the big picture; I

also had to pay for my braces out of pocket, about $5000. My ortho.

is great, and he accepts payments on that, interest-free. That's

almost payed for at this point, which is nice! Yippee!!

Anyway, you may want to look into surfing the internet for dental

plans; I can't remember where I saw it, but there are

certain " plans " that have surgeons on their membership, and if you

join them, the surgeon will lower his rates. (Sorry, I can't

remember which websites, but there were several as I recall.) It's

not insurance, but kind of like a supplement to insurance. Make

sense?? There's a fee you pay to join, (nominal) that could end up

saving you a big chunk of change.

When you meet with your surgeon he can quote you an estimate for

Well, I have another suggestion. My surgeon belongs to a practice

that has a surgical operating room at their office. Do a google

search on " university oral surgery " . They are an awesome practice,

and they do a ton of these surgeries. (located in charlotte, NC)

I had to pay my upper jaw surgery out of pocekt as well but was cheap

because I went to a medical university hospital where med students

are on hand observing everything. I went to Temple university

hospital where the hospital costs were only $1000. Try to find a

hospital like that in your area. Good Luck
