Guest guest
hi, all... i need help. i feel like i'm not getting enough nutrition on my liquid diet. i've been drinking slim fast, soup at hand, baby cereal and milkshakes. i think i need more protein and less carbs. i haven't lost any weight, which is astonishing to me... so i think i'm getting plenty of calories. yet the past few days, i've felt rundown. my OS wanted me to have at least one fresh fruit and one fresh veggie per day. i haven't been able to find any sites with recipes or anything like that. any ideas on how to get better nutrition??? heather
Guest guest
Hi there: It could be that you are feeling run down because of the anesthesia and not because you aren't getting enough protein. To make sure, you might want to include blended peanut butter in your shakes? I also used someone else's advice (listed here earlier) and included avocado in almost anything I could - like I'd blend scrambled eggs with avocado and would drink it. (Get prepared for it to be very green.) You can also get your fruit through fruit milkshakes (milk, yogurt and strawberries or some other kind of fruit) - or fruit juice. Apple juice is a particularly good one to drink - soft on the stomach and so good for you. Hope this helps. Guest guest
You can make a fruit smoothie with frozen fruit and orange juice, or one of my favorites is fresh strwberries and/or bananas and soy milk, or drinkable yogurt and a little honey or sugar. Blend until very smooth. The soy milk has very little flavor, (make sure it is plain) so it just taste like wonderful fresh strawberries, you could do this with any kind of berry or peaches, just make sure the fruit is really ripe and soft. Add a little (just a liitle) wheat bran for some fiber. Or why not fresh homemade applesauce watered down with apple juice? As for the veggies, all I can suggest is cooking them till very soft and blend with broth. Guest guest
Nutrition, Well what are you craving? ie what might your body be tell you its missing? i've been drinking slim fast, soup at hand, baby cereal and milkshakes. =that looks like you are missing fresh fruits and veggies. Maybe try juicing some stuff? Its a good way of getting more nutrition in quick. Or getting some fresh squeezed juice. Throwing in some frozen berries into those shakes. Protien can be as simple as throwing some cottage cheese into the mix? Some peanut butter...or other nut butter.. Even a peanut sauce - thaifood style. It is quick to burn out on the liquid diet. However you got to figure some people stay on those shakes (aka adult baby formula) for a long long time with very little ill effects....or well.. Maybe even a greens type of drink? Or pie, pie is nice to bake stuff into Adding a raw egg into the shakes? Shiloh
Guest guest
Hey, my OS had suggested drinking V8 Juice, she said that it was very high in vitamins (veggie wise) and great for the fiber intake. Which helps if you have the grand ole constipation that usually comes along with taking pain killers. Guest guest
Switch from Slim-Fast (which is, after all, designed to help someone LOSE weight) to Boost or Ensure, both of which are made to help maintain nutrition. Ensure, my GI guy says, is not a milk product, and he permits it while you're on a clear liquid diet as a prep for letting him look where the sun never shines...
