Guest guest
Thanks Connie, I agree with everything you said. I just wish I could track down what antibiotics they had me on. Have one more clue which I'll follow up Monday a.m. Back then I didn't have brains enough to keep all info....Alert to newbies...Keep everything as for all records, keep records, get copies of ALL doctor appointments and diagnosis....Sue Marth
Guest guest
Hi Sue, Thanks for sharing your experiences on the antibiotics......whatever it was. Interestingly, Dr. M. Brown, the originator of the protocol as used in rheumatic diseases, in addition to the tetracyclines, gave his paitents IV delivery of Clindamycin....I wonder if that's what was in your IV? Dr. Brown found that the one- two punch worked better at getting the organisms under control. The IV's are still used by many of the AP friendly doctors.....Dr. Franco wanted me to have the IV's in addition to the Minocin but since I can only go see him once a year, my regular internist takes care of the other details. My internist was opposed to the IV's (there is a risk of a hard to control diahreaah called Clostridium difficile when using IV Clindamycin and many antibiotics.) Even though I told my internist that this is usually not a problem with the AP, she was not in favor of the IV Clindy. So, instead, Dr. Franco put me on Zithromax and later, Biaxin. I've posted about these in past discussions on the list. This treatment is also used sometimes in fibromyalgia....it's detailed in the Road Back Newsletter if you are interested. Generally, pcp's are more willing to try the antibiotic route and have found a lot of success with it, especially if they are willing to read some of the studies and implement the protocol as described in the various literature.... www.rheumatic.org and www.roadback.org have well researched information. Good luck to you. ~Connie H > Back in 1992 or 1993 I went to ENT for major ear flare. He wanted me > in hospital for IV antibiotics. Well I convinced him that I could do > that from home. Guest guest
Hi Sue....I remember those days when I obediently followed my doctors orders, no questions asked :-) My mom and I used to chuckle at an aunt of mine who requested copies of all of her labs, reports, etc...now, guess who has an accurate record of all of her medical history? .....better late than never, though. Good luck tracking down the antibiotic that they gave you. ~Connie H > Thanks Connie, I agree with everything you said. I just wish I could track > down what antibiotics they had me on. It is important to have your records... I have found this out the hard way... Now I get everything... If you are ever sent to another dr, you will have every thing... In fact I found some major errors in my records...You can weed out the junk you don't think the dr will need and just send the important stuff, but keep the complete records for yourself... I ususally take my records in before my appt so the dr has time to look over them (if they do) LOL I keep a set with me while traveling, so if I should have a flare while I'm gone, the hospital or dr where ever I am will have my records too. Hope this makes sense. LOL hugs
Guest guest
Hi, You mean get a copy of every drs. appointment you have?????? doesn't that drive them crazy. How can you get the copies, you must have to wait a while before it all gets recorded. You must get a huge pile. others have mentioned this too. don't get me wrong I will do what ever I can for myself. just don't understand the importance of it. How do you weed out what's important stuff. I know test results and meds but anything else?????/ I know this makes me sound stupid. i have hard time asking drs. for stuff I have to feel real sure what I am asking for. Guest guest
Dear , I used to feel the same way but they are yours. Why you should have them is that if something should happen to you and need to go to hospital they will understand by looking at your records. Well we hope they will. If something would happen to me my husband knows where they are and to bring them. I have to go back to my pcp in three weeks, was there yesterday, so will call a week ahead and tell them to have them ready for me. Plus, they do make mistakes and I can correct them. Remember they go from a doctor who can't write and a transcriptionist who can't type....Anytime I have tests done I insist I get the results faxed to me. You can sometimes find more in our group and the net than what they know...Get strong and take charge....Good luck to you....Sue Marth
Guest guest
It was given to me while I was still in the hospital. I don't drink it much though. If you are really craving the OJ you can try the sugar free tang (not the same I know) but hey not bad either!!! I love OJ but there is so much sugar that I try to avoid drinking empty calories. My weakness is V-8 juice. Candi antibiotics I think that I have strep throat and I am going to the doctor tomorrow, I was wondering about taking antibiotics because they always hurt my stomach when it was normal...anybody know anything about this? Are there certain things that I shouldn't take...Also I was curious about citris foods because I was told to avoid them totally, but have read that some people drink orange juice and pineapple juice...were these things part of your prescribed diet(for those that drink them) and if so at what point did you drink them...I love and miss orange juice...thanks for an input! Guest guest
Well, I saw my OS today. He feels very strongly that I need to stay on antibiotics for another week to prevent infection, which could lead to bone and/or tooth loss. I feel very strongly that I should NOT take antibiotics because I feel it's more important to feel healthy and be able to eat nutritious foods that will keep my healing up. Basically, I don't have permission to quit, but he knows I am quitting and he knows it, and we're still on even terms. The good news is I get to take my bands off 4 hours morning and evening. I got a tool with a hook on one end and a fork on the other to help me place them. It came in the bag with the rubber bands. I remember everyone else talking about buying hemostats and stuff - do you not all get hooks, or do they not work? Wierd moment of the week - I have regained feeling on HALF of the roof of my mouth. It makes the right half of my mouth feel open and loose, and the left half tight. Wierd. Kris
Guest guest
Kris, I don't know how long you've been on the anti-bios for. Bone infection is not something to risk, it can lead to more than tooth loss...And because of the risk of infections...from lack of great hygiene in the mouth...and the co-relation between that and heart disease. Maybe you could wean yourself off them or break them up. ( i actually used to just put it on the wound - not sure if it was a great idea but at the time it made sense to me I am not a big supporter of antiboitics for regular things, but having a friend who's a geriatrician and telling me a story about a facial bone infection and a lady that ended up in a coma due to a severe absess infection.... If you are set on going natural then maybe including some sulphur products like msm might be helpful? Now I was breastfeeding and was only given ten days of anti's the first surg. and no steriods.. However if you have to get something checked if you suspect an infection in a couple months it would be an x-ray...and I'd rather pollute my body with antibios than radiation.... just a few cents. Guest guest
Let me just say I HAD an infection that developed 4 days after my surgery because I was sent home without any antibiotics. The infection develops extremely fast and is extremely nasty (imagine PUSS draining into your mouth), disgusting and required very strong, dangerous antibiotics to cure. Not to mention an extremely un-fun squeezing and draining session with the oral surgeons. Going off antibiotics early is what causes drug-resistant diseases and infections that cannot be cured. Your body can develop an infection that can survive despite treatment with antibiotics. The antibiotics are given to prevent infection from developing because once it happens it is alot harder to treat and is extremely dangerous. Your face is made of soft bones which can be damaged very quickly. I would play it on the safe side and finish them up. If they are giving you gastrointestinal probs. there may be some other options available to help with that. Good luck, > Well, I saw my OS today.
