Guest guest
Tina: My recent operation cost just over $18,000. So what you were told is approximate. Good Luck.
Guest guest
Hey everyone, I'm a new member! When I was about twelve years old, my orthodontist said that we were going to wait until my bones had quit developing before we started any oral treatment. I'm 18, and he's ready to start. I have a severe overbite (my side profile is IDENTICAL to princess_qtpie2003 before pics, we look really alike. If you weren't to take a closer look at the pics, you'd think we were the same person). I'm to have an upper jaw surgery because I have an overjet thing caused from a tongue thrust. First, I have to go through about 18 months of braces, then the surgery, then six more months of braces. My oral surgeon said that the surgery would run me about 20 grand. I'm just wondering if this is reasonable. I'm paying out of pocket, so this price issue is a pretty big deal to me. I'll put my before pics up as soon as I get a chance. If anyone could help me out with some information, I would be extreamly greatful. Thanks!!! -Tina
Guest guest
have you checked into insurance at all??? most insurance companies will pay for this. i had upper and lower and for some reason, my insurance approved the lower but not the upper. i had to pay $4500 for the upper surgery and $0 for the lower, but my surgeon's office gave me a big discount. explore your options before paying out of pocket. you might be able to get that price down a bit. good luck! > Hey everyone, I'm a new member! Guest guest
I had lower. Surgeons were about $6,000. Hospital was about $10,000. So $20k isn't far off, and it varies from place to place and doc to doc, I think. Cammie > Hey everyone, I'm a new member! Guest guest
I had upper & lower (3/2/04) and my surgeon fee was $6000, hospital fees $2300, anesthesiologist fee $1200. A grand total of $9500. I got a discount from both the hospital & anesthesiologist for paying before the surgery. Good luck with your surgery! Britt > Hey everyone, I'm a new member! Guest guest
That number seems very high to me -- maybe yours is more complicated? I had Upper Jaw Surgery for an open bite. I was charged a package price of something like $7500 which included a possible hip-bone graft. I ended up not needing the hip graft so was refunded that amount this week. My overnight stay at the hospital was about $650 extra (including medications). I was fine to go home the next day -- although I did get wheelchair delivery to the car ;-). I had a highly reputable doctor, Dr. Roger West in Seattle (LOVE him!), so these are Seattle prices. I think even if I'd had the lower jaw done too it was not as expensive as you describe. If I were to include the price of the braces, only then that number might reach about $20,000 for upper and lower but the braces were luckily picked up by insurance. Connie Day 18 and happy Upper Jaw/Open Bite 2 years of braces total (I'm half-way through) > > Hey everyone, I'm a new member! Guest guest
Have you checked?! You might have won the honor to have the most expensive surgery by total to date! Actually, the surgerys themselves are modest - but 43 grand for the two day hospital! Your wisdoms sound quite expensive - were they all impacted? Val > > > > Hey everyone, I'm a new member! Guest guest
I think my surgery was about 30k total for upper and lower. About 11k for the OS, 2k for the anesthesiologist, 15k for the hospital (less than a 24 hour stay). Another 1k or so for miscellaneous stuff like x- rays, bloodwork, etc. Braces were another 4k on top of all that. --Neil > > > Hey everyone, I'm a new member! Guest guest
A large portion of the hopital bill was for the OR (5 hr, 15 min-- $23,774). The wisdom teeth were complete boney extractions (about $430 for each tooth plus anesthesia). I was exremely lucky to have a great surgeon. Not only is he board certified (something that I did not know too much about prior to all this)but he is also a diplomate of the AMA. > > > > > Hey everyone, I'm a new member!
