Guest guest
Day 4 post-upper/lower and feeling like crap. Is is possible for your lips to molt? I feel like huge sheets of something are peeling off my lips. It doesn't hurt since they are numb, but it's a little unnerving. Also, did anyone else have trouble feeling any urge to eat? I have to force myself to drink anything because it is so uncomfortable and I have NO appetite. I've been struggling with nausea for the last two days but seem to have had some improvement since going off my pain medication (at my surgeon's suggestion). I still have no appetite though. Does it make since to just slurp down whatever sounds edible instead of focusing on nutrition at this point?
Guest guest
The thing I found best on lips and that I have always used on my kids noses during colds is vitamin E capsules. (The kind that you swallow). Just get a pin, poke a small hole and squeeze out what you want to use. It is so good, way better than anything I have ever bought as far as a chapstick goes. I always rub the excess into my cuticles for an added bonus. I promise it works. One small bottle will last you forever. As far as the nausea goes, almost all pain meds make me sick percocet, codeine, aspirin commonly make people sick. One pain med. I found that has absolutely no ill effects on myself is demerol. Hope you get feeling better, > Day 4 post-upper/lower and feeling like crap. Is is possible for > your lips to molt? I feel like huge sheets of something are peeling > off my lips. Guest guest
Lord do I remember that feeling all too well! Take heart that it does get better. My OS gave me some sort of Aquaphor by Eucerin, but to be honest with you I put it aside and have used plain old Vasaline since the first week. The Vitamin E oil sounds like a really good idea to me though, I think I'll try that one myself. My mother cared for me the first two weeks after surgery and I was not fortunate enough to know about the Zip and Squeeze bags that everyone here seems to have used. I had to use ye ole' syringe and catheter tube. Oh Joy! I had a hard time getting anything down because of the horrible taste of the pain killers and antibiotics and God knows what else I was taking, being crushed up into my " food " at EVERY feeding! It was GOD AWFUL! If there was a better way to do it, please, those of you that know, please share with the future surgery patients because I wouldn't wish that torture on anyone, except for my ex- husband. I will never be able to drink orange juice again! My mom liked using that one a lot because she said that the meds dissolved more quickly in it. As for the nausea, my doctor prescribed a medicine called Promethazene. It works great! I believe there is a form of Demarol with Promethazene in it. Warning though, it will knock you out. At least it has everyone I known that's taken it. As far as worrying about nutrition goes, I KNOW they are awful, but the Ensure shakes will take care of that for you. Otherwise make sure you keep drinking something. I found out this week that a lot of the problems I've been having are simply because I have been dehydrated. So drink up and remember it will get better. Cyndi > Day 4 post-upper/lower and feeling like crap. Is is possible for > your lips to molt? Guest guest
Thanks Cyndi. I seem to have an easier time eating (with zip 'n squeeze) now that I'm no longer nauseated. I quit taking my pain killer and started taking plain tylenol instead--still have some pain but not too bad. Today I am just SO congested. I feel like I'm drowning and can't seem to do anything to thin out the garbage going down my throat. Decongestants do not seem to be helping much at all. Guess I just have to wait for this to pass. Good news is I get to see my kids (3 and 5) this afternoon for a while (they've been staying down the street with my mom). I hope I don't scare them with my huge head! > > Day 4 post-upper/lower and feeling like crap. Is is possible for > > your lips to molt? Guest guest
I had very good luck combating congetion with Afrin nose spray and by taking Benadryl Severe Congestion. The Benadryl made me very sleepy, but let's face it, what else do you have to do? Also, I've been taking Tylenol Arthritis, my general doc told me to take it for my carpal tunnel, so I wanted to see how it worked for this pain. It is time released, so it last for up to 8 hours, which allows for a little more sleep than with just regular Tylenol. Good Luck > > > Day 4 post-upper/lower and feeling like crap.
