Guest guest
> Does this ban on lifting forever apply to weight training (resistance training), not the body-builder kind of stuff, but what you do to make you lose weight faster.......? A surgeon & a p/t told me to wait with that kind of exercise till after I get my hernias repaired. Neither indicated that I should not ever do it; just don't do it till the hernias are fixed (and presumably all healed up). > Thanks, > Carol A ------------ I'm only speaking from a wide open RnY whole tummy sort of thing -- I got to the weight lifting fairly early on but avoided my abs -- (didn't want a hernia) and I did avoid my stomach for a year or until the smaller exercises " felt " ok (no extra pulling) I'm still careful of the area (paranoia now... LOL) because I do NOT want a hernia. Ok, last week my trainer put me on one of those huge balls to do crunches because (2 year and 3 months later) I DO want to work on my tummy area and the " one " type felt like a knife in my belly button so I stopped right away, another one felt totally great... the ones that work my obloquies (sp?) don't hurt at all, the one that works the " right on the scar " do.... I do heavy weights, slow reps in shorter sets to build muscle (not body build, just tone) Using free weights seems to give " me " more control over which muscle groups I'm really hard on (butt ones) and what I'm softer on (scar ones) plus I can (and do) keep in the back of my mind the whole " bone issue " with the weight baring thing for the joints and such. I wouldn't do this with a hernia existing and not sure what I would do to alter what I do if I do face a hernia later down the road. hugz, ~denise
