Whoops, Randy, it's spelled Valsalva's and your definition is not correct. Valsalva's is when the head of the bed or table is placed lower than the feet. :-) Doc Carolyn explained the other one 'vasovagal " :-)
Guest guest
I have had my share of hitting the floor over the past two years and after many ER visits via ambulance and two electrophysiology studies, it was determined that I have SVT but more of a metabolic nature than cardiac related. It has to do with not getting enough fluids and if I'm not eating right. If I get the least little bit behind on my fluid intake, my heart rate will go from 35-40 beats per minute to over 185. I've cracked my ribs, dislocated my shoulder, got a black eye and suffered two concussions from this. I must say I'm awfully fun to be around at times. Right now the doc has me on Atenelol to control the run away heart rate, if I go off the meds, which we have tried a few times in the past, I run into problems, so there definitely is a cardiac component in there too. My blood pressure runs extremely low in the first place and the Atenelol lowers it even more, so I'm in a Catch 22 situation. My cardiologist wants me to wear compression stockings all the time because it will help the blood flow in regards to the legs when standing up from a sitting position. Have been much better with the extra fluids, medication and time to time the compression stockings. Have to admit they make my thighs look thinner. : ) But too hot to wear during the summer months. Have been more compliant now that the cold weather is here and notice a considerable difference. Most of the time I can feel an episode coming on and either grab a seat or sit on the floor before I pass out. Other times, bam, I'm down. Just make sure that you are always completely hydrated and keep your sugar levels in check. I too get that queasy, clammy feeling when my sugar levels drop. Hope this helps. Guest guest
does the nerve compression have a more immediate effect? ____________________________________________ If you're vagaling down then it would be pretty quick, not one or two mins after coming outta the BR.
